Team Bangladesh's skipper, Mushfiqur Rahim, has beseeched his national cricket authorities to shore up the standard and structure of the domestic cricket in a bid to do fair as a Test playing member of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625).
The dejected captain aired these views after losing a 3-ODI home series, coupled with a Test match to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Rahim claims that unless the national cricketers play a handful of First-Class matches in every season, they cannot be able to perform well and win over international teams. In his view, the batsmen cannot score confidently in the 5-day format without learning
to lash centuries at the domestic level. The captain strongly believes that the only way out for his team is to get laurels in First-Class cricket.
Talking to the media today, the youngsters said, “We must improve our first-class infrastructure; without that we will continue with this sort of performance in Test cricket. We may have impressive performances in one or two matches but overall the situation
will be the same as it is today. We can improve our skills only by playing in the first-class competition."
The last week’s defeat was the 10th of the team in the 11 Test matches they played since 2010. Showing pathetic performances with both bat and ball, the Bengali Tigers lost by an innings and 184 runs at their home venue.
Rahim, who took the baton a couple of months back, nullified the coach, Stuart Law’s notion, that the Bengali batters collapsed due to over aggression, arguing that they must be allowed to play their natural games.
He told, “I think our batsmen tried to play their natural game and there was nothing wrong with that. Actually we have to show more patience, determination and the right application to prolong the innings.”
As Pakistan and Bangladesh are preparing for the 2nd and last Test that is to start from December 17, Rahim has goaded his boys to stay vigilant in the practice nets and turn to Dhaka stadium with full confidence and zeal.
The 23-year-old has 27 Test matches to his credit with 1387 runs. However, he has played 52 First-Class games so far. The Bogra-born cricketer is h**l-bent to end his team’s losing streak in international cricket at any cost.
