Mushroom Question?

I have been finding these mushrooms all throughout my yard and nobody seems to know what they are. Can anybody identify them? Could they pose a health risk to myself or pets (I own a dog and two outdoor cats.)?

  1. it appears to be a brown cap..one way to see if they are poison is to break the top in half..if it changes colors then it is poison..

  2. I really don't know, but all mushrooms are fungus, so one's that grow out of a backyard out of nowhere can't be good.

  3. That is a LBM, othrewise known as a little brown mushroom. There are 1000's of these, matter of fact there are so many that people stopped naming them and started calling them LBM's.

    No joke

The chances of getting sick is fairly low, but not risk free.

Remember that the mushroom is just the fruit of the "plant" and picking it will not kill the plant no more than picking a apple will kill it's tree.

If I were you I would just ignore them, but if you simply cannot sleep at night knowing that they are out there you can buy fungicides that will kill a lot of them.
