Under immense criticism from all corners after poor performances in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan captain, has found a supporter in shape of Mushtaq Ahmed, who feels that the all-rounder could not do well
because of a sustained injury.
The 32-year-old cricketer burst into the scene of international cricket in 1996, scoring the history’s fastest One Day International (ODI) hundred off just 37 balls in only his second match. Since then, the all-rounder has been an integral
part of Pakistan’s limited-over side.
Over the last 16 years, Boom Boom has been blamed for his poor shot-selection, which has often led to his demise with the bat. However, the hard-hitter from Karachi played a huge role in Pakistan’s success in the ICC World T20 2009
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, being named as the Player of the Match in the semi-final as well as in the final.
Mushtaq, who is Afridi’s former teammate, said that the 32-year-old cricketer struggled because he was not completely fit, asking the fans to be patient with the former captain.
"Afridi is a very senior player and very committed but he had a back problem before this tournament. He was carrying it and it affected his performance," Mushtaq said.
However, most other experts do not agree with Mushtaq and think that Afridi’s time in international cricket is over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Nawaz-Malik-c88831 urged the selectors to bring in a new player in place of the all-rounder, if Pakistan wants to prepare
a strong team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 jointly.
"He is occupying a key position in the team and it is time the selectors now start looking for his replacement," Nawaz said.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Clark-c2591, calling for Boom Boom’s exclusion from the national team.
He believes, "It appears as if we keep on selecting him hoping he will perform like he did some years ago but it is not happening. Afridi and some other players need to take a decision on their retirement.”
