  1. To be quite honest, I've never used Sony Vegas, but from my experience on Final Cut Studio 2, Adobe Premiere Pro, Pinnacle Studio 9, and Windows Movie Maker, the same sound files are compatible, so I'll assume they work on Sony Vegas.

.mp3 or .wav your best choices. Wave files are actually better because they do not compress the sound files into your standard 2 tracks, but at the same time they take up much more room. MP3s are fine, unless you composed some insanely complex piece of your own and have the raw tracks to work with.

However, it may sound stupid, but music directly from iTunes will NOT work. Apple has them locked, for copyright protection reasons. Pretty much anything else works: Windows Media Center, Real Player, Wave Pad. If you want an iTunes file, you can burn the song to DVD then re-import into wavepad. Wavepad is a good and simple program...and it's free. Just save the file to your hard drive as an mp3 or wave and you're ready. All you need to do is open Sony Vegas, go to File>> Import files then browse and select those files on the hard drive.

Being that you'll be using Sony Vegas, you can use wave files with no problem. With other programs like WMM, you are only given 2 audio additional audio tracks, so wave files may not have enough room. Vegas, however, gives you quite a few audio tracks to work with, which is a good thing.

    Hope that helps.
