I realized to get in the industry you have to know someone. I am good when I am networking with people but i have trouble getting into events. You cant know someone without getting into events and you cant get in events without knowing someone. its a cycle. im wondering does anyone have any ideas for me to get backstage of concerts or find out about events to network at besides myspace. i use myspace daily. i got somewhere but not far, usually people ignore my messages or respond with good luck or bad news. please please please. help. also if you can, can you leave your email so we can converse more.

  1. It is a false conception that you have to "know someone" to get into the music industry. You start off small and work your way up. I started in a radio station and I've been doing internships as an undergrad in college in a science major. While having personal connections does help, it isn't necessary. I am the first of my family to be even remotely associated with the industry. If you're having trouble getting in backstage, you're not entering the right way. You cannot expect to simply walk in backstage without any credentials. If you are a local radio host with experience in promotions (both easy credentials to get) however, the staff would be more inclined to let you in. Myspace may help in building connections, but it's not really effective in that the many of the people on there are in the same position as you and all vying for backstage passes. You have to stand out. Getting into or knowing people at events is one of the more advanced steps you need to take. Focus on building your credentials right now.

My current colleague is such a success story who started off in your position. He had no credentials, and couldn't get in to meet/interview bands or submit his demos etc. He took up DJing, got a job at a local club, then became a promoter and worked his way into radio and recording. This allowed him to make the basic connections needed to get his demos heard. I wouldn't be the kind of person to consult for bands as I work with EDM artists and independent EDM record labels, but what I've listed above are a few pointers you might want to follow.
