Music Instructors: What exactly is it that gets you so angry with students?

Name the specific things that tick you off, such as students not practicing, not coming to class on time, etc. Describe specific scenarios if you can.

What can you do as an instructor to watch your temper, remain calm, and yet be effective enough to push a student past his or her limits?

What can a student do to learn his or her instrument, grow as a musician, and yet not feel put down or put off by the instructor's criticisms, feedback, or impatience?

(I am learning the guitar and trying to understand my instructor.)

  1. You've to understand that your music instructor dreams that you'll easily learn what you're being taught. However, that's not always the case.

As a music teacher, he has failed you and you shouldn't be put through this as you're paying for his services.

Yes, students will often p**s of the teacher, disappoint them and make them cry. And the teacher will be angry and annoyed. But the fault lies in your music teacher. The job of a teacher is not only to teach, but also to understand the individual needs of the students and figure out the best and most effective way to teach the student.

As for you, think whether or not learning the guitar is something you really want to do. Do you have passion to learn it? If not, then maybe it's time to quit or change instruments. Do something that makes you happy, something that you enjoy and love doing. If you think that it's something that you want to do, go find another music teacher who understands your needs. Good luck!

  2. When I was in Varsity choir in Middle school our first concert was so horrible that our teacher cried next day at school to us telling us how disappointed she was.

  3. this one time at band camp....

our conductor had us march through the pouring rain for two hours. but it was fun. ridiculous but fun. ill remember it forever

    and in 7th grade

our conductor stopped us about 8 measures into the song (during a concert -- on stage) and started us over because we were so off.

haha he was a bit angry the next day. it was humiliating.

and one time the trumpets were spraying valve oil all over us (the oboes and clarinets) and he freaked out and screamed at us so loud his face turned red as a tomato and he made us be so quiet we could hear the flourescent lights humming.

    now youre making miss band.

    wahhh.

    =(
