My music files disappeared in windows Vista. I had 2 Gigs worth. I was trying to add the directory to my winamp player. Some files weren't showing up. I browsed the computer and found under pictures there was a secondary music file which had multiple "music files" under it. Just "music, music music" etc and it went on forever and at the bottom was a copy of my complete music list. So I tried adding that -- no help. So I deleted the copy and its multiple music file duplications. I went to my regular Music file and everything was gone. Everything. I went into the recycle bin - nothing. I did a system restore - nothing.

Does anyone know wth happened and if this is a common Vista s***w up? I really am begining to despite this OS.

  1. Enter the name of the song into the search..right click it > open file location > copy and paste it back into documents music folder

  2. It dissapears coz its illegal foo!

  3. Don't use Vista

    Vista sucks

Microsoft assumes you are a criminal until proven innocent.

They are in the pay of big media companies and don't take you're intrests or rights seriously

  4. Nothing gets deleted in Vista or any other OS without you approving it...so if it's gone from your primary music directory then you must have deleted or moved it at some point.

Was your music in mp3 format only? if not, winamp or another program may have created duplicates of the music by converting unsupported formats into mp3 files. If you saw music in places that you didn't expect to find them you should really have checked your original music folder to ensure they were not moved by any program before beginning to delete them. If you deleted the whole set of files at one time, it might have been too large for the recycle bin and your PC would have prompted you to permanently delete the files, which means that nothing would remain in the recycle bin.

You can search your computer for music files by typing *.mp3  or whatever format your music is saved in ( e.g *.m4p if your music is from iTunes). This should give you a list of all the music files on your PC and tell you where they are located if still there.
