Question:

Music too loud, voices too soft?

Whenever I watch a movie I always get very overwhelmed by the loud music, so I have to turn the vol. down. When it gets to the speech scenes I can barely hear anything, so I have to turn it back up again. This is on all TV's, except at the movies.

So, I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there any contraption you get can to balance the sound?

2. Am I the only one who experiences this- could I have an auditory problem?

  1. This is a common problem and to solve it you need to understand the concept of sound. There are two types of sounds bass and treble. Bass is low pitch sound and consists ofreally deep nosies like drums in a song. Treble has the high and normal pitch sound and contain sounds like sppech. So the  problem you are expercing is thet you have a home theater and you are putting the bass to high and te treble to high so put the bass down sinse bass is not important it is just for sound quality. treble is really important and it must be loud enough to be heard over bass

Sorry for the speeling if there are any.

  2. No....BUT.....

You may want to check your TV set and see if the Audio or MTS is set to SAP mode (Separate audio program)

If it's set to SAP, you can use the MTS button on your remote, or it may be in the audio section of your menu to change it.....

But normally bad sound is caused by accidently bumping the MTS / SAP button on the remote....

When SAP is turned on, the music sounds NORMAL and the VOICES are still there but VERY weak

    That's why I think it's turned on.....

  3. It is a common problem ... particularly for those listening to movies in stereo, or in surround sound with improperly adjusted speakers. The majority of movie dialog comes from the centre channel, so you need to adjust the centre speaker to be louder and aimed at your listening position. This is done through the speaker setup in your A/V receiver.

The problem is NOT a bass/treble issue, it IS a speaker balance and sound decoding issue.

  4. if it is a 5.1 system, then turn up your center channel.  Voices are primarily directed to this speaker.

But this sounds like just a TV problem.  Try the following:

    Get your hearing checked.

Check your TV speakers.  TV speakers are directional and really low quality. Some really suck.  Try getting the audio out to other speakers.  How does that sound?

All tv sets have an audio out.  Get some decent speakers at a computer store - plug em in, try them out.

Try a 5.1 system in a store.  Then you can turn up the center channel, which is where voices are routed.

    Hope this helps!

  5. I have the same problem. I am constantly adjusting the volume on my tv because of it. If you are watching an avi, you can normalize it before watching it.
