Musical Audition for High School?

For musical auditions do they give you a song and dance to audition with, or do you have to find a song and make up a dance.

My only experience is drama 1 in middle school and Chorus in Grade school. I'm in 9th grade and can only sing a few songs well and have no dancing experience.

Btw... I have to do the singing and dancing part even if i only want a talking role... and would panic! at the disco be a good song since I do not plan on a singing role?

  1. When I was in high school, they chose a scene for you to do and you did it right in front of them after reading through it. I've only been in one play in high school, and after that I kept auditioning for the rest of the year until I graduated. And at those auditions they all gave me a specific scene for me to try out.

Unfortunately, I don't know what it's like for your school. Whether you can choose something or do what they give you.

  2. ask the director. Cause every high school is different. They usually give you a dance. For music, learn a song that fits the style of the show and learn a song from the show. they usually give you a scene, but you might need to memorize a monologue. ask the director.

  3. They should have what they're asking for in the audition posted somewhere, if not...ask the director.  In high school they used to give us an audition packet with all the scenes/songs they'd want to see so you could prepare.  In college, we had to prepare a monologue for a general audition.  Then they'd call us for callbacks and they would have sides (cuttings from scenes) available at the beginning of the call back and we'd have a few minutes to prepare.

Choose a song that is in your range and carries similar emotion to the show, that is if they don't provide you with song selections.  It should be from a musical, not the radio.

    hope that helps : D
