Musical Romance focused on the prize in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap
Musical Romance is preparing for a victory in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap, which is scheduled to take place on 7th July, 2012, at the Calder Casino & Racecourse.
Run over a distance of six furlongs on dirt, the Princess Rooney Handicap is exclusive for 3-year-old and above fillies and mares, and apart from Musical Romance, Sassy Image and Bouquet Booth is likely to start.
Trained by William A. Kaplan, who also owns Musical Romance in partnership with Pinnacle Racing Stable, the mare seems to be in good form since she has been performing well in practice runs, and completed one-half-mile course in 46 1/5 seconds in a
work-out on 29th June, 2012.
The co-owner/trainer seems pleased with the development of the five-year-old, and this was her fourth work-out this month, the first one being on 6th June, 2012.
The trainer told the media that:
“She was doing it all on her own.”
The trainer further added:
“She really gets a lot out of her work in the morning, so bringing her up to the race this year without a real prep hasn’t been that much different. She’s perfectly fit for the race.”
Since the line-up for the race hasn’t been confirmed, the trainer is anxious to see who will compete to size up the competition, regarding this, he added:
“I’m still interested in seeing who is coming. There were some good solid horses nominated to the race, and once you put them in the gate anything can happen. But I am confident.”

The daughter of Concorde's Tune, out of mare Candlelightdinner has demonstrated that she is fit time and time again.

Her first win of the season came in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 17th March, 2012, where she was mounted by rider, J. Leyva and claimed the victory over the D. Fawkes trained, Hot Summer over seven
furlongs.
Bred in Florida by the Ocala Stud Farms, the mare competed in the Princess Rooney Handicap last year as well on 9th July, 2011, where she was paired with rider, J. Leyva.

Luck did not seem to be on her side, as she finished second to the Dale Romans trained, Sassy Image.
Musical Romance returns to the track in much better form, and she is motivated to prove herself. Without a doubt, she will be the one to watch out for in this race.
