Musical Wedge to follow up Taunton win in New Year´s Day Racing At Exeter Racecourse Novices´ Handicap Chase
Friday’s New Year´s Day Racing At Exeter Racecourse Novices´ Handicap Chase has attracted nine high-profile participants, but a good run cannot be guaranteed for several of these. The only contestant who is likely to make an impact is Musical Wedge - someone
enjoying the best form of his life over fences.
Claire Dyson’s gelding showed a great act on testing surface at Taunton last time. In the Find Live Totejackpot Information At Totepool.com Handicap Chase, he demonstrated a fascinating show in the hands of Nick Scholfield.
The conditions were testing, but Musical Wedge maintained the standards throughout. He tracked the leaders brilliantly, and subsequently led at the 11th fence. The 9-2 chance kept stretching his advantage, and eventually seized the top rank by
14 lengths.
Despite a penalty, the 8-year-old is highly likely to build on fresh success, and bag another remarkable triumph. He is due to face some big names in the class-4 contest. Over a distance of three miles, the participants will compete for a prize of £3,574.
It is scheduled to start at 15:15 GMT.
Royal Chatelier showed inexperience on his chase debut last month. But this is much easier, and therefore he should be considered. Similarly, the 3-mile hurdle winner, Russian Song, deserves respect on his reappearance.
The Big Freeze showed fine improvement last time, but it is a very tough situation. Sentimentaljourney stays well, but one should ignore him especially after two below-par performances lately.
Time Do showed good promise in the 2m5f chase yesterday, but needs even more to pass this stern test. Lough Coi made a promising debut in this sphere, but lost direction afterwards. The Anthony Middleton-trained was awful on the previous two starts.
Al Shababiya has shown nothing special since a win over three miles in January. The Tom Gretton-trained was not impressive on chase debut. Lupita has not done anything impressive in the handicap chases so far. So, it is very hard to give any preference to
Derrick Scott’s charge.
Musical Wedge, Russian Song and Royal Chatelier, are the only ones having big roles to play, with the vote going for the first-named. Good luck to all the contestants.
