Musical ideas for middle school play??

i am going into 8th grade at my middle school. so far we have done the wizard of oz, grease, d**n yankees, annie, and high school musical. we are definitely doing a musical for kids in grades 6-8. help us think of some!!

Hairspray is a fun musical that also deals with history and covers some difficult racial issues that would be beneficial for middle school students to discuss. Another good one would the Diary of Anne Frank.

You can't do Hairspray, Phantom or The Little Mermaid because the rights haven't been released.  MTI's junior series has some great shows - Fiddler on the Roof jnr is an excellent one (lots and lots of parts!) so have a look there, otherwise:

- Godspell

- Oliver!

- Camelot

- Pirates of Penzance

- Honk!

- Return to the Forbidden Planet

- Peter Pan

If you go to mtishows.com and click on the broadway jr. link, all of those shows will suit middle schools. I did Aladdin Jr. and that was OK, and you'll probably not be doing any new musicals that really have any edge because of age, but you'll probably do something classic and G rated like Peter Pan. But seriously, the Broadwal Jr. stuff would make the most sense. Seussical would also probably work, but not Into the Woods, because you really can't have much of a chorus/ensemble for that, even though it does fit your school's demographic.
