next year i was thinking of dumping math and the electives cuz they stink and staying home in the mornings to play piano and do art stuff. art has always been my favorite subject secretly and i would like to go to an art school after i finish next year. but if i stay home thats like....people will think im weird and ill miss out on the talking part of school which i also like. i never thought i would be a part time homeschool kid, i was always into sports and being popular but now its different. should i stay home and do what i want or go to school all day adn be "normal"?

  1. I was homeschooled my whole life so I never really had to decide between school or staying home, but if art/music is what you want to do than I highly doubt being in school will help you.  I know I was practicing about 6 hours everyday for my audition to the music school of my choice.  The funny thing about the arts is you can definitely have a career without a college degree or even a high school diploma.  However, you will learn amazing things at an art school and you will be pushed to your limit which is always good for crazy artists, right? ;)  So, unless you really want your high school diploma, I recommend taking gen ed. classes at a local community college if you can.  Get them out of the way so you can focus on your core classes when you get into that killer art institute!  Good Luck!

  2. If what you really want to do can be accomplished through homeschooling, go for it.  You may still have to take math or English (if you don't currently have enough credits to satisfy college admissions), but you can spend a lot more of your time preparing for what you really want to do.

If you're in high school, you can also take college classes early as a homeschooler...which means you could take art and music classes at a local college and receive more advanced instruction.  This could give you a "leg up" on your future plans and allow you a better chance at getting into the schools that you want to go to.

What's so great about normal?  :)  Be who you want to be.  Just because you're not in public school doesn't mean that you can't leave the house - homeschooling can give you the freedom to follow what you really want to do.

  3. STAY HOME!!!!!!!

    it's the best :)

if music and art is what you want to do then do it!

if you stay home and concentrate on those things you'll see such a big improvement in all aspects of what you are doing :)

I'm at school now, but i used to be home schooled and i wish i still was...

I've gone from having time to practise at least 1 hour every day, to being lucky if i get 1 hour a week.... it sucks!

if my school let me do what you are thinking about doing i would do it!

music is what i want to do when i finish school and by going to school i recon that I've actually disadvantaged myself in that area :(

    btw... define 'normal' ?

  4. if you go to a private/public school you can't skip math or the electives or you can not graduate. so here are your options go to school get a good education, suck up what you don't like doing and just do it. or say home not get a good education and be a starving artist (literally)
