Musicians/Piano Players/Composers - PLEASE : )?

Right...so, here goes (I'll try my best to not confuse anybody!)

I am composing a piece of music - it is in 6/8 time and in A Major. In one bar, I have the right hand playing in octaves - the notes are B-C#-D-E-F#-G#. I need something similar to this in the left hand, but I'd prefer it going down on the piano, if you get me. ><. Could anybody think of 6 notes that would work with the previous 6 I have given?

I've had a play about on my piano and can't seem to arrange anything I like the sound of.

Thank you!!!!!!

  1. I'll leave out the sharps. Too lazy to write. I suppose this is a bar before the climax?

    just simply do g f e d c b then it ends on a. which fits in perfectly with that.

    Or if its a waltz-like thing

    maybe a bdf chord with d at the bass then 2 bdf repeated quaver chords. then egb chord with e at the bass then 2 other repeated egb chords.

  2. Perhaps you could also try listening to music by Mussorgsky. His music is very unusual in terms of chordal progression. All in all, however, it depends on the style of your piece. I reccomend Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" for the chord structures.

  3. Recommend you study some of the scores of P.I. Tchaikovsky. His "chordal" structures are most intriguing and unusual, for a romantic composer: might give you some good ideas.

                                                             Alberich

  4. I think you are getting confused with the key that you are composing in. Three #'s doesn't necessarily make it in A major.

    Of the notes you have in the right hand, the first three naturally fall with the chord of B minor, and the second 3 naturally fall with the chord E major.

    So your left hand should revolve around the notes B and E.

  5. Without knowing note values or where you're coming from or going to to resolve the progression, you could try this (all notes equal value, eighths)

    | B/D C#/C# D/B E/A F#/G# G#/F# |  A (chord)

    (Above are treble note over bass note, no chords until the resolution.)

  6. It's hard to suggest answers to this, without knowing the context of this melodic line (where does it come from? where does it go? is it at the beginning of a phrase? the end?)

    But, this might be nice

    B    C#    D    E    F#    G#   -->  A

    E    C#    B    G#  F#    E     -->  A

    Worth a try, at least. I'm trying to give you something that sounds like an E arpeggiation (dominant harmony), then you could resolve this to tonic.
