Musicians: favourite room to practice?

I only practice in the bathroom.. Love the acoustic effect and the humidity allows for so much resonance. I've always wanted to practice outside but it's not good for your instrument and all the echo is gone..

what about you?

  1. I play my bari in the basement.

It echos a lot and makes me sound really good.

    =]

I think I'm gonna try playing in the bathroom, though.

And, I would LOVE to play in an airport or train station.

  2. I have a little music room. :-)

I should practice outside one day...I've never played my guitar out in the neghborhood before lol.

  3. LOL... the bathroom... but you play violin, so the humidity can be a good thing!  When I practice my bari, I need a little more space than my bathroom can afford me!

I have 2 places... one is in my basement... I claimed it as MY space and turned it into my studio... it is really big and there's not much furniture.  I also put in a drop ceiling, so no looking at the bones of the house!  The accoustics are great.

My other favorite... the tiny little closets from college that they called practice rooms.  My little girl was just a year old when I went to college (I did some things backwards) and I couldn't practice at home without waking her.  I would wait until my husband got home from work (about 10pm) and then rush off to school.  In two of the practice rooms were really big windows that overlooked the mountains, the lights of the city, and the lightrail (trains) rushing by.  I would play til 1 or 2 in the morning with the lights off, and just watch the people stumbling about as I played through hours of scales.  It was drafty in the winter and too hot in the summer, the accoustics were just so-so, but it was beautiful, and there's no other place I'd rather be (accept maybe on stage!).

  4. i love to play outside

  5. i play the trumpet and i practice in the living room. because there is no echo. and when my office is done i will be practicing there instead.

  6. I have a separate music room in both my homes, but on the boat, I just play out in the cockpit most of the time.

  7. I play a marching trombone (big trumpet/little tuba) and it's so loud and obnoxious, the only place that I practice is in the living room to make my mom mad =].
