Musir in for striking a hat trick second time at the Meydan after winning the Group 2 Al Rashidiya sponsored by Dubai Duty Free on 26th January
The 26th of January was De Kock trained Musir’s day, as the six-year-old struck his second straight victory of the season. He won the Group 2 Al Rashidiya sponsored by Dubai Duty Free at the Meydan on a field of eight.
Before this, on 12th January, Musir had won the Group 3 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 sponsored by Etisalat.
Presvis’s return for defending his 2011 Al Rashidiya title was fruitless, as he could not even get a placed finish in the race that he won last year.
To contest through the mile and a furlong track, Marco Botti trained, Marcret, broke from the fifth stall, and soon was in lead of the track. He however stayed prominent only for the next two furlongs that he headed, and did not gear up when the other
contestants started invading the remaining furlongs on the track.
Tracking Marcret was Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, City Style, and the 4 to 7 favourite, Musir. It did not take Musir, under Christophe Soumillon, very long to over ride both Marcret and City Style, when he ran on smoothly for the next two furlongs.
Mickael Barzalona’s ride, City Style, did perform in the final 1 1/2 furlongs, but could not impact the finishing of the winner, who went through the wire comfortably at a length’s difference, leaving City Style as the runner up of the race.
Winning jockey Soumillon: "We went very slowly early on and that has really suited us as this horse does quicken so well. I was always confident and this is my favourite horse. We hope he is a Dubai Duty Free horse and this has hopefully shown he is”.
A hat trick that Musir accomplished back in 2010, also at Meydan, seems to be spiraling into shape once again with him already have credited two wins against his name, a third would make history repeat itself.

He won the UAE 2,000 Guineas Trial on 4th February 2010, then on 18th February, he won the Group 3 UAE 2,000 Guineas, and gave in the decisive stroke on 27th March by winning the
Group 2 UAE Derby.
Musir’s next target for the Carnival is the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free, which if he goes on to win, then it would entitle him to yet another victory, and also would set the record of achieving it twice at the Carnival itself.
