  1. A musketeer was an early modern type of infantry soldier equipped with a musket. Musketeers were an important part of early modern armies, particularly in Europe, not only in France, but also in Britain, Spain, Sweden and India. In 1776, the French musketeers were eliminated by Louis XVI, for budgetary reasons. Reformed in 1789, they were eliminated shortly afterward. They were reformed on July 6, 1814, and definitively eliminated on January 1, 1816. Therefore, the French musketeer no longer exist.

  2. There are no Musketeers because there is no French Monarch.

Yes, there are still ceremonial postitions, but they do have modern functioning weapons, so I suppose they'd be handy in an attack.

  3. In the UK we have the grenadier guards (The men in the bear skin hats).

They come from France and were first formed to protect Charles II when he was living in exile after the English revolution.

They have protected every monarch since.
