Musketier to emerge triumphant from the Stars and Stripes Stakes at Arlington Park
The Grade 3 Stars and Stripes Stakes at Arlington Park is creating anticipation already with a star-studded line-up.
Scheduled to take place on 14th July, 2012, the race will cover a distance of 1 ½ miles where the Roger Attfield trained, Musketier, and David M. Carroll’s charge, Joinem, will try to get a hold of the $150,000 purse.
The ten-year-old, Musketier, comes to the track with an immense amount of experience, something that will definitely give him an edge over the other runners.
Paired with jockey, Joel Rosario, the horse also has the benefit of entering as a high-weight with an impost of 124 pounds.
It looks like the competition will be easy for the son of Acatenango - despite his age, he appears to be in top-notch form and, he proved this when he prevailed in the Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine on 24th June, 2012, where he
defeated, Simmard, and completed the 1 ½ mile course in 2 minutes and 28.00 seconds.
Foaled by mare Myth And Reality, the older division runner had a fair share of success in his time but, he is not stopping just yet, and will race with the same motivation that the younger runners will be racing with.
Over the course of his 47 starts, he has secured 11 victories, finished six times as a runner-up and, six times in third place, with earnings of $1,095,383.
Joinem, trained by David M. Carroll for owner, Henry E. Pabst Trust, can’t match his adversary in experience but, does not lack in talent and ability.
For this race, he will be paired with Jesus Castanon with weights of 117 pounds.
The son of Johar, out of mare Keemoon, recently secured a placed finish in the Grade 3 Louisville Handicap, where he finished second to, Simmard, over 1 ½ miles.
These two runners will compete against nine other runners including the Bill Mott trained, Harrods Creek.
This event serves as the final local preparation race for the $400,000 American St. Leger Stakes, which will be held on 18th August, 2012.
If Joinem and Musketier manage to secure placed finishes, they win enter the American St. Leger Stakes with starting or entrance fee.
