Question:

Muslims, can you refute the error here of Qu'ran 23:14? I'm not being rude/islamophobic, just wanting to know?

Quran-23:14: Then fashioned We the drop (s***n) a CLOT OF CONGEALED BLOOD then fashioned We the Clot a little lump (foetus), fashioned We the little lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators. ( Bengali translated Quran said: “Zamaa’t Raokto theeke Manoosh banieesi” And this Ayat has been repeated again and again throughout the Quran ) Quran-75:38: Then he becomes a CLOT; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned…

Quran 96: 2 Created man, out of a mere clot of congealed blood

There are serious scientific problems here:

Blood clot cannot grow into anything. This idea also came from the Greek. Aristotle erroneously believed that, humans are originated from the action of male s***n upon female menstrual blood, which is absolutely an incorrect assumption. Quran’s assertion on Clot (alaqa) is completely wrong about human development, since there is absolutely no stage during which the embryo consists of a clot. The only situation in which an embryo might appear like a clot is during a miscarriage, in which case the clotted blood that is seen to emerge (much of which comes from mother) is solidified and by definition no longer alive. Therefore, if ever an embryo appeared to look like a clot it would never develop any further into a human; it would be a dead mass of bloody miscarrying flesh.

By the way, ALL translations today say these same stages one way or the other, so translation is certainly NOT the reason that this error is here.

  1. I think you are grossly mistaken regarding the birth of man.The process is explained at different place in the context of some backgound as Quran is not a text book of general or a compendium of various scientific researches but a book for spiritual guidance for all types of people of any intellectual calibre. The scientic references though eternal realities are merely for the clarity of purpose, not for making it a science text book.As far as the other thing you have mentioned is haram as it is not intended for continuity or reproduction which is mere wastage of s***n which has been created after such an intricate orocess that science has not been able to fully comprehend it.When millions of people die aspiring for an offspring, its wastage in this manner is least diligent.See we have not used the envirnment diligently and now are the risk of extinction, what would happen, if s***n is wasted on mass scale by the entire humanity.

  2. the koran is right.

  3. thank you for asking such questions. Now, more people would understand the truth in islam.Praise be to allah (swt)

  4. 23-12 Indeed We have created man from an essence of clay,

23-13 then placed him as a drop of s***n in a firm resting place,

23-14 then changed the s***n into a leechlike mass, then leechlike mass into a fetus lump, then fetus lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought him forth as quite a different creature from the embryo - so blessed is Allah, the best of all creators

23-15 Then after living for a while you shall all die,

23-16 then most surely you shall be raised to life again on the

    Day of Resurrection.

23-14 We have made seven avenues (heavens) above you; and We are never unmindful of Our creation.

23-18 We send down water from the sky according to a due measure, then We cause it to settle in the soil - you should know that if We please, We can certainly take it away

23-19 - then with it We cause to grow gardens of palm trees and grapes for you; yielding abundant fruit for you to eat,

23-20and also a tree which grows on Mount Sinai which produces oil and relish as a food for those who like to eat

    it.

23-21  In cattle, too, there is a lesson for you: from within their bodies We produce milk for you to drink, besides this you gain numerous other benefits; some of them you eat,

23-22 yet on others as well as on ships you ride.

In comparing a leech to the embryo at the transitory stage (alaqah) we find similarity between the two. Also, the embryo at this stage obtains nourishment from the blood of the mother, similar to the leech that feeds on the blood of others. The second meaning of the word alaqah is “suspended thing.” Suspension of an Embryo during the early stages in the womb of the mother. (About 15 days old). The actual size of the embryo is about 0.6 mm. When comparing the appearance of an embryo at the mugdah stage with a piece of gum that has been chewed, we find similarity between the two. We find that the external appearance of the embryo and its sacs during the transitory stage (alaqah) is similar to that of a blood clot. This is due to the presence of relatively large amounts of blood present in the embryo during this stage. The blood in the embryo does not circulate until the end of the third week. Thus the embryo is like a clot of blood at this stage!

The embryo at the mudghah stage acquires the appearance of a chewed-like substance because of the somites at the back of the embryo that “somewhat resemble teeth marks in a chewed substance.”

    40 DAYS IN THE WOMB

As we know, chromosomes contain all the characteristics which the new human being will have such as the color of the eyes, skin, hair, etc. Hence, many of the details in the human being’s make-up are determined in his chromosomes. Chromosomes begin to form during the early nutfah stage of embryonic development. In other words, the distinguishing features of the new human being are determined from the very beginning at the nutfah stage. During the first 40 days of gestation, all the body parts and organs are completely, though consecutively formed.

The Prophet Muhammad, (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), has informed us in a hadith that: “In every one of you, all components of your creation are gathered together in your mothers’ womb by 40 days”. (Narrated in Saheeh Muslim and Al-Bukhaari).

In another hadith, Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “When forty-two nights have passed over the drop (nutfah), Allah sends an angel to it, who shapes it and makes its ears, eyes, skin, flesh and bones. Then he says, “O Lord, is it male or female?” and your Lord decides what he wishes.” (Narrated in Saheeh Muslim).

The first 40 days constitute a clearly distinguishable stage of embryogenesis. The absolute precision and accuracy of those hadiths particularly impress us. So the two hadiths that have been noted can provide us with a specific timetable for the main embryological development before 40 days. These hadiths could not have been obtained on the basis of the scientific knowledge that was available at the time of their recording. It follows, that not only is there no conflict between genetics and religion, but in fact religion can guide science by adding revelation to some traditional scientific approaches. That there exists statements in the Qur’an shown by science to be valid, which supports knowledge in the Qur’an having been derived from Allah.

How did Mohammad (pbuh) know about the 20th century’s Medical fact 1400 years back?

Say: He has revealed it Who knows the secret in the heavens and the earth;surely He is ever Forgiving, Merciful. (Qur’an, 25:6)

  5. The miracle of man's creation is emphasised in many verses. Some of the information within these verses is so detailed that it was impossible for anyone living in the 7th century to have known it. Examples of these are as follows:

    1. Man is not created from the entire s***n, but only a very small portion of it (sperm).

    2. It is the male that determines the s*x of the baby.

    3. The human embryo adheres to the mother's uterus like a leech.

    4. The embryo develops in three dark regions in the uterus.

The items of information just quoted were far above the level of learning of the people living at that time. The discovery of these facts could only become possible by the technology attained in the 20th century.

Now, let us examine these items one at a time.

This site rocks.  Allah knows best!

  6. For the first query:

    May be transtation issue:

Alaqa, in Arabic, has several meanings:

1-     A leech that lives in ponds and sucks the blood of other creatures.

2-     A thing attached or clings to something else.

    3-     Clotted or coagulated blood.

Translators choose the meaning according to their knowledge. Modern scientists translate it as leech-like clot .

    For the 2nd Query:

    Anal s*x is Haram,

    Oral s*x is not desired.

  7. I don't know of any practicing Muslim who can refute the fact that the Quran got this one wrong, but I doubt that you would find one willing to be open minded enough to even consider the fallacy because no Muslim I know would be willing to admit there is any kind of fallacy in the Quran.

  8. You should read the Arabic Quran.  The word in Arabic isn't what you are thinking it to be in English.  A poster above answered it very well.

There is an opinion by some scholars that oral s*x is forbidden or makrooh.  They have their reasons for their belief and back it up with proper evidence.  There are other scholars who say it is permissible and obviously don't agree with the interpretation of the other scholars.  No person here should really be screaming it to be only one way or the other since there are different opionions by learned men and women.  Yes we realize there are ppl who use YA that scream things to be a certain way and they are obviously ignorant to the opinions of other scholars.  There is really nothing that we can do to help these people at least read more.

BTW, If you don't agree with that it is your right and considering you are not Muslim it is really irrelevant what you think about it.

  9. Thanks for the question.

I'm afraid there is a misunderstanding here.

“Then We made the drop into a leech-like structure.”

This statement is from Sura 23:14. The word “alaqah” refers to a leech or bloodsucker. This is an appropriate description of the human embryo from days 7-24 when it clings to the endometrium of the uterus, in the same way that a leech clings to the skin. Just as the leech derives blood from the host, the human embryo derives blood from the decidua or pregnant endometrium. It is remarkable how much the embryo of 23-24 days resembles a leech. As there were no microscopes or lenses available in the 7th century, doctors would not have known that the human embryo had this leech-like appearance. In the early part of the fourth week, the embryo is just visible to the unaided eye because it is smaller than a kernel of wheat.

Translators are not scientists on every subject. The Arabic word is ('Alaqa) which means a leech-like structure and is also the name of the worm in Arabic.

You may or may not have heard of Professor Keith Moore (being a non-Muslim) and his great astonishment of the scientific facts in the Qur'an about embryology. He even included verses of the Qur'an in his later works after further studying the embryological references made in it.

More about miracle of embryology in Qur'an here:

    http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/scient...

As for oral s*x, we cannot say it is Haram because it hasn't been deemed Haram in the Qur'an nor in the Hadith. However, if science one day proves that oral s*x has risks of mouth cancer, it will definitely be deemed Haram.

  10. There's no mistake or contradiction. There's a book written by one of the known embryologists which explains how that verse is even more accurate than the scientific explanations that were given.

The verse should not read "Congealed" it should read "Coagulated"

14: Then We made the Nutfah into a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood), then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought it forth as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.

There is a good book on the topic, I dont have it in my library here anymore but you can probable find it online: "Embryology in the Qur'aan and Sunnah" I think was the title.

  13. Dear,

    Peace upon you.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Only Prophet and Apostle of Allah, Prophet Muhammad Sallahu'alaihi Wassalam the founder of a world religion. He was also the ruler of the early Islamic community. He was the possessor of spiritual illumination and vision, and such he could interpret the inner meaning of the Revelation and guide men upon the ascending stages of the path of spiritual perfection.

Not you and me who really understand the inner meaning of the Revelation VERSES 23:14,   75:38 AND 96:2.  You may wrongly interpret or some body else. Hope we shall not discuss on the verses that been brought up for clarification.

Hope not to bring these matter. All words in the Al-Qur'an nur karim are the words of Al-Mighty God Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, the creator and the governor of the universe. Created Jinns and Mankind and make mankind as agent of earth. HE IS THE CHERISHER AND SUSTAINER OF THE WORLD.

    Thank You.
