  1. Thanks for wanting to serve our country. My son is presently serving in Iraq. There is freedom of religion in this country and even though there will be those who will put you down do not despair they also make fun of the LDS faith which my son follows. Peace&Love be with you...~M~

  2. Join. Don't listen to these cretins here. I know dozens of Muslims in my Brigade alone, I have three who are best friends since I 've been in the Army I keep up with and have meet hundreds. I catch more h**l by being a heathen than them lol. Since 9/11 how many hate crimes have you heard of here? This isn't WW2 and no one is getting 'rounded up'. We have Muslim chaplins and you are allowed to practice. You are also an asset in SW Asia if you go over there for the religious culture aspects. You get it on your dogtags (unlike what the other clown said) and that's that. You practice on your day of servie and you are allowed to pray when it is time and appriopriate for to do so (not in the middle of a live fire or a night patrol for example).

  3. Yes Muslims can serve in the military. There are even Muslim Chaplains. You could have some problems with some idiots but no more than in any other vocation. We do have freedom of religion, even in the US Military.

  4. Yes, Muslims can join the military. Do not be discouraged by the ignorant people on here.

  5. Officially, you won't get any problems for your religious preference.

Unofficially, no one much cared what religion anyone was.

Unofficially, when people make fun of other people, they pick whatever it the most defining characteristic of their personality.   If you're good at your job and are generally respected, nobody is going to bother you much.   If you're not the best soldier and you make your religious preference a big deal (whatever it happens to be-- you could be a fundamentalist christian), that's what will be targeted when people ping on you.

It would be the same if you were g*y or really liked breeding miniature dogs or played way more online games than average... anything that defines you is fair game.  In short, being muslim won't be a problem, but if you make muslim who you are any problems you have will probably end up being framed in terms of you being muslim.

Successes and praise, too, may run through this filter, which could get annoying.

  6. Of course. Actually, I even remember there being Muslim services in Basic Training on Sunday when I was in the Army. There are no religious tests for the military, as by the Constitution there should be a wall of separation between church and state. And if anyone harasses you about your religion, you can report it to your chain of command and they will deal with it.

  7. This country was built on religious freedom.

If you a Muslim, a Jew, a Catholic, or whatever. We don't care. If you can love our country you belong.

You were born in the US, you are an American and I support you.

  8. I'll bet you do. Lets arm the enemy.

You people only joined because you didnt get accepted into a college. GI Bill here we come!

The Koran openly states to kill any and all westerners, or anyone of opposing faith.

Recruitment is down so people conveniently look the other way.

  9. Yes you can join the Army. One of the best Soldiers I ever had the privilage of knowing and serving with was muslim. He was born in the United States and his parents were from Pakistan. However all of them are U.S. citizens. We gave him a hard time in a joking manner and played along with it. We had a good time together. We served in Iraq and Afghanistan and at no time did anyone question his abilities or his service to HIS country. I hope this helps you out.

PS. I still keep in contact with him to this day and we try to get together at least once a year and have a good time. Good luck.

  10. Yes, but Im guessing they wont stamp muslim on you dogtag.

  11. Thank you for wanting to serve when people like half the answerers on this question would pusssy out. Religion is not a test of serving... yes Muslims are allowed to serve... yes you might get some flak from racists like the aforementioned answerers, but you can notify for commander about harassment... you'll get your religion stamped on your tags just like everybody else... and don't let those people discourage you, we all wear the same uniform for a reason.

  12. absolutely.  Plenty of Chaplains for the Muslim Faith.  HOWEVER..if you are devout.,. don't expect to face Mecca 5 times a day.   when doable, appropriate accommodations will be made, but no one will go out of their way.. and you may get a literal broom closet to pray in.    Nor will any special tenants be accommodated.. no beards, no non regulation coverings( Jews, for instance can only wear a Yarmulke that does NOT show under their headgear) no special dietary restrictions( although it is QUITE easy to avoid pork products.

you have the option to have your religious preference listed on your dogtags..or not.

  13. Muslims are very fine people and yes the military will allow you to join. Here at Selfridge ANG Base there are many Muslim military people. They do a fine job. You will have no problem.

  14. Yes, muslims can serve in the military. I had a buddy on my gun team that was muslim. He practiced his faith and (to the best of my knowledge) no one gave him any problems.
