The coverings that Muslim women wear, please tell me about them? Why do they wear the, what they are made of, how they work, are they hot or uncomfortable, do they want to wear them, do they have a choice?

I am curious, I saw some Muslim women with the head coverings on today and I felt bad staring but it's interesting to me.

  1. For Muslim women, COVERING THE HEAD IS NOT THE SIGN OF DEGRADATION or oppression. It is a commandment from Allah, who is not male or female, and thus, would not discriminate against women, a segment of His creation.

. Rather, HEAD-COVERING IS A SIGN OF PURITY AND DIGNITY. It highlights the Muslim woman as a pure, chaste woman and sets her apart from the immoral behavior associated with women who dress immodestly.

. The HIJAB IS A SORT OF "SCREEN" BETWEEN THE CHASTE MUSLIM WOMAN AND THE EVIL THAT EXISTS IN THE WORLD. When a woman wears a hijab she is less likely to be harassed by men with lusty motives; SHE IS LESS LIKELY TO BE EXPLOITED FOR HER BEAUTY AND FEMINITY.

. The Hijab allows a woman to move about outside the confines of her home WITH HER ATTENTION ON THE TASKS SHE HAS SET OUT TO DO. The Muslim woman does not try to impress anyone but Allah when outside of her home. She is not concerned if men find her attractive, or if people are impressed because she has the latest fashions, or the newest hairstyle. She leaves her home as a SELF-CONFIDENT PART OF HUMAN RACE, not as a fashion-plate seeking stares and adoration in order to gain self-esteem.

. The hijab cuts down on competition among women. How many people in the West sacrifice financial savings and health in order to have plastic surgery - in a desperate attempt to meet up to an unrealistic standard of beauty. IN ISLAM, WOMEN ARE APPRECIATED FOR THEIR KNOWLEDGE, PIETY AND CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY. When women wear hijab one finds that the most beautiful women are not necessarily the most popular. Rather, a woman is assessed for her mind, and not just superficial physical traits.

  2. It's also known as anti-rape headgear. Muslim women wear it because they think there are rapists waiting around every corner. So to make themselves look unattractive and to avoid being raped by a horny Arab, they invented the anti-rape gear. This gear includes a hijab, long sleeve top and a pair of pants that are worn even during the summer. The full set is called the burqa where you can only see the woman's eyes. The initial purpose of the burqa was to protect the wearer during sandstorms, however due to changing times and climate, they have been converted for anti-rape use. Some muslims say that they are required to wear the anti-rape kit according to Muhammad (yes, Muhammad not God) in the Quran but some say that Muhammad never said so.

There was a recent event in Canada where a Pakistani girl refused to wear her hijab to school. The next morning, the girl's dad confronted her and was unable to make her wear the hijab. He then grabbed the hijab and proceeded to wrap it around his daughter's neck and choked her until she died of asphyxiation. This event showed that the hijab can be used as a deadly weapon.

Muslims don't even know the answer when you ask them and my answer is the closest to the truth.

  3. Burqa (veil) is NOT compulsory in Islam.

    Two groups perpspective on Hijab:

    1. If you ask majority of Muslims, they will say Hijab (Scarves that cover hair) is compulsory. Majority of them follow hadiths (collections of stories written by men 200 yrs after death of Muhamad, of which authenticity of stories can be challenged)

    2. If you ask the Turkish people, Lebanese or Quranites (Those who only refer to Quran & reject hadiths) will say that hijab is an Arab tradition & NOT compulsory at all.

  4. i am muslim and my mom and sister didnt wear them. but my sister goes to school in pakistan now and when i went to see her i felt like she should wear one. But not because it was a muslim country i did not trust the guys there, all they do is stare at girls and it makes me sick. i think it could be made out of whatever the person wants it to be made out of.

i dont really know exactly a whole lot about the hijab/burqa (sp?). but logically as a muslim i think it would be like to stop people from looking at the women. in western countries it might seem weird because people dont get turned on by someones hair, but by short skirts and lowcut shirts or something. but over there people dont wear clothes like that.

i think that saudi arabia is the only country that makes it mandatory. women are recommended to wear it. but i dont know how mandatory it is in the religion. im still learning about it myself.

  5. I am not muslim but i am married to a muslim man, and the girls wear hijjabs out of respect for their bodys and there husbands, they cover up because in their cultural in islam i mean, women dont need to be seen by other men, just their husbands so they dont need to go show their beauty to the world, they take them off when they are in their homes but when outside they dont like others to oodle them and its a very good thing and muslim women are very respectful of themselves
