well there are TONS of opinions about this. some say it's haram some say it isnt. there are Hadiths that give clue that it is haram and others that say it is ok. so it's kindda up to u to choose when there is sth like that. it's more like what does music make u think about? how does it affect you? positively or negatively? does it make u forget about ur prayer? do you listen to it more or Quran more? things like that...

I'm one h**l of a headbanger, i dont think music is haram unless it distracts you from ur duties to allah, i wish i could apply this to myself tough, so music isnt that much of a haram, it's not a sin, but seriously change ur name into anything else like a band name or a song name!

Pakistani Chap speaks the truth. Music influences people to the point it shapes their method of thought, their attire and how they interact with people. We should not let it control us in such a manner, because we should never forget that the Qur'an and Sunnah are what keep us on the Straight Path - not music.

Generally speaking, music is deemed to be har'am due to its effects on a person’s soul and the possible effects on morals. It is also very addictive and can lead to a person indulging in vain things which can make him lose his purpose in life. It actually effects the subconscious mind, so you're unaware of how it is effecting you.

The prohibition against harmful music is derived from the Qur'anic prohibition in indulging in that 'which is vain'

If you observe society around and I'm sure that the gradual decadence of moral behaviour is based on 3 elements: Alcohol, womanising and music. You will observe this especially when you go to Universities and colleges.

So music can never be passed as lawful on the basis of Shariah. Therefore it is Har'am

It isn't Haram cos the Quran carries no prohibition against it but i suppose some of the answerers here are quite right with the issues they raised regarding the excessive consumption of entertainment materials.

It's still isn't Haram but like everything else , consume in moderation as the Buddha would have said .

Anything not praising Allah and the Prophet is haram. Music messes with your spirit. It can bring demons into your body. Chants, mantras, and certain rythms can summon spirits to enter the listener.

Marilyn Manson knows about this. and a majority of the music you hear today, from these major corporations, they have Satanic influences to them. Most of these artists are practicing Witches & Satanists. These major label corporations are ran by Masons, 33rd degree. They follow Luciferianism and believe in Lucifer. They sacrifice their records to Satan, and all the music influences your behavior...

why do you think teens are fornicating, killing themselves, acting barbaric, rapeing each other, etc etc? It influences their psyche.

In Islam we prefer VOCAL readings, not music. Only Vocals and sometimes Drums are permissible, and they must praise our Prophet & the Lord.
