Musselburgh, Fontwell to be inspected before Sunday’s meetings
According to the officials at Fontwell and Musselburgh, Sunday’s meetings will take place only after the inspection of the racecourses.
The conditions are not good at Fontwell, where the temperature has plummeted to -5.5C on Thursday night. Moreover, the state of the track is likely to get worse, as snow fall is forecasted for Saturday night.
The management is not ready to take any sort of risk and thus, they called for an inspection, which will be made at 12.30 (local time).
"With the forecasts it's going to be pretty challenging to get the meeting on. There is just the chance the snow coming in could turn to rain which would help, but everyone's saying it will be snow. We'll take a look tomorrow and will know much more
then." clerk of the course Edward Arkell stated on Friday morning.
Fontwell is scheduled to host following competitions.
1. Chancelloroftheformchecker.co.uk Juvenile Hurdle
2. Cicra Charity Raceday 29th April Handicap Chase
3. E.B.F. Country Farm And Seafood Celebrates Kerry's Birthday 'NH' Novices' Hurdle (Qualifier)
4. Hardings Caterers Handicap Chase (Supporting The Tiana Honey Watson Fund)
5. Cicra Charity Raceday 29th April Handicap Hurdle
6. Digibet.com Handicap Chase (Supporting The Tiana Honey Watson Fund)
7. Digibet.com Intermediate NH Flat Race (Conditionals/Amateurs)
Likewise, Musselburgh is set to host a number of electrifying contestants. However, the participants are still on hold, as the venue will be inspected at 7am. Musselburgh’s weather is showing no mercy at the moment, however, the officials are hopeful
that the program will go ahead as planned.
"We are really quite optimistic. Temperatures dipped just below freezing overnight when we were told it was going to get to -5C. It's a sunny morning and it should get up to 3C and it's not supposed to dip below freezing tonight,” Harriet Graham, clerk
of the course said on Friday.
Musselburgh’s card for Sunday includes Buy Your 2012 Annual Members Badge Today Handicap Hurdle, Scottish Countryside Alliance Novices´ Hurdle, John Smith´s Scottish Champion Chase (Handicap Chase) (For The Bowes-Lyons Cup), John Smith´s Scottish Triumph
