Must I know how to swim in order to become an FA?

Hi! :) One day, I'd like to become a flight attendant (FA) for one of the three major airlines. In general, is it mandatory for a flight attendant to be able to swim for a certain length?

I don't know for sure, but check on the United, American, Qantas, US Air websites to see the qualifications and rules for becoming a flight attendant.
