2008 Masters Friday. Appleby's ball on the green was hit by Tiger's ball. Instead of replacing his ball to the original position, Appleby just through down his marker at the original position. Must Appleby replace his ball to the original position first and THEN mark it?

  1. Acutally, Angel Cabrera and Stuart Appleby immediately identified the spot at which Appleby's ball was at rest before being hit by Tiger's 3rd shot at 18 on Friday.

If a player does not replace the ball to its original spot, it is a penalty.

  2. You've got to put the ball where you think it was and then you can mark it. I have never seen anyone put the marker down without respotting the ball. It seems weird to me.
