Must You know how to swim in order to go scuba diving?or/and Snorkeling?

Ever since I was a child I have wanted to go Snorkerling and scuba diving but I dont know how to swim...Is this a requirement?Thanks

deffinetly if your going scuba diving you have to no how to swim through the water and you also have to be able to handle all the equipment because it can get pretty heavy.for snorkling u might be a person that will go down a few feet with the snorkle under the water so you have to be able to control your breathing

it is not a requirement but you must know some swimming  in order to get certified and about snorkel it is the same you will enjoy it more more if you know how to swim          good luck have fun

You need to know how to swim in case your equipment fails and you have to get back to shore or to the dive boat (e.g. loss of mask, snorkel or fins). If you are unable to swim (and you don't need to be a fantastically good swimmer), you won't be able to make it back. Hence the need to be able to swim.
