I'm extremely new at Magic, and I'm trying to create a good red elemental deck.

What are some MUST HAVE cards?

  1. get all the red elementals from lowryn and morningtide.

  2. It depends to some extent on what format you're playing.

I'll assume you're looking at a casual-play deck, either standard or extended, and probably focusing on "burn" cards.

Shock is pretty much a must have until you really start to tune your deck against your opponents -- then it becomes a "probably good" card.  Incinerate is much the same, though it often becomes an either-or between the two.

Something like disintegrate that does X damage to a target is very useful in most casual games

Most cards at this point are easily replaceable, so I suggest mainly to look for creatures with low casting costs and spells that do damage.

The biggest thing to keep in mind, is that no matter what you might want to try otherwise, keep your deck at exactly 60 cards, with 20-24 of them land.

  3. the first guy was simi right.

you do need low casting level creatures.

but,in the same since you need some big creatures has well.

and also make sure to get the X damage cards my favorite of these is conflagrate its a X X R wich means one red and the x's stand for any color mana times how much of it you have to play.

example would be 10 green 10 red then the 1 red.

wich means you would give you opponet 20 damage and you would win.

but dont expect to get conflagrate easily b/c the set that it was in isnt in stores anymore so youd have to do online shopping.

  4. The format defining card for elementals is undoubtedly Smokebraider. In addition to providing a 1/1 elemental that can swing, it provides a nice two mana boost in order to get your bigger elementals out. In a pure elemental deck, a Smokebraider is like a bird of paradise on steroids.

Other cards that one must have are cheap, efficient damage spells such as the much loved Shock, shard volley, and a nice incinerate or two to finish off the game. Often, in a pure red elemental deck, one would be forced to run pyroclasms and firespouts to keep the pressure down, but this is detrimental to you because it often ends up killing your braiders and the Incadescent Soulstoke as well. The game plan for Elementals is very simple – stall until the late game, then cast a huge often-discouted elemental such as cloudthresher for the win.

    I hope that helped.

  5. well since it's red elemental obviously elemental type creatures. I know Lightning Elemental is in a lot of decks like that since it's a fast hitter. Quick burn type instants like shock are a must have. Since a lot of red elementals are fast, you probably want to have just really quick and fast, low cost creatures so that you beat them quickly before they kill you.

  6. Let see....

    Shock

    Pyroclasm

    Incinerate

    Chaos Charm

    Accelerate

    Barbed Lightning

    Crushing Pain

    Firestorm

    Flare

    Lightning Storm

    Lightning Bolt

    Shock

Surging Flame (this works good with burn decks)

    Thunderbolt

I gave you a list of all instants to look up. Any red deck needs to have lots of fire power and must be able to attack at most by the second turn. If it takes longer to attack your deck is too slow. You want to use Elementals only as protection mainly in case someone throws out a big creature that you can't burn. Always target the player unless the creature is really big. My friends and I used to play MTG back in 2002 and they did a face off between two red decks, both had elementals. They finished the match in less then 4 minutes and none of them got their creatures out because it was so fast. I only knew one person who had a blue deck that was able to counter nearly every red card thrown at him and be able to "Capsize" his opponent's lands causing the guy to lose.
