  1. there are so many great places in melbourne. My top pick is the penguin parade but then again I just love penguins! :)

  2. well depend which part you want to see! melbourne (the city) is just so great! so just get some information from the information center in federation square. that'll have the best things to do in melbourne, but i would recommend that you should go to some places like walhalla, or ballarat and definately check out the Great Ocean Road and all of the suburbs around these areas!

    good luck with your travels!

  3. Hi, The following is a must see and do list of all the things Victoria has to offer (well the majority of things to do)

    The Royal Melbourne Zoo http://www.zoo.org.au/MelbourneZoo

    Werribee Open Range Zoo http://www.zoo.org.au/WerribeeOpenRangeZ...

    Healesville Sanctuary http://www.zoo.org.au/HealesvilleSanctua...

    Melbourne Aquarium http://www.melbourneaquarium.com.au/

    Melbourne Museum http://museumvictoria.com.au/MelbourneMu...

    Luna Park http://www.lunapark.com.au/

    Puffing Billy http://www.puffingbilly.com.au/

    Fairy Park in Anakie http://www.fairypark.com/

    Queen Victoria Market (weekend market)http://www.qvm.com.au/home.php

    Scienceworks http://museumvictoria.com.au/Sciencework...

    Melbourne Observation Deck http://www.melbournedeck.com.au/

    Eureka Tower http://www.eurekatower.com.au

    Eureka SkyDeck http://www.eurekalookout.com.au

    Sovereign Hill http://www.sovereignhill.com.au/

You also gotta go to Phillip Island and check out the Penguin Parade. While in Phillip Island go to Amaze 'n' Things http://www.amazenthings.com.au/

If you are hanging out to do some shopping whilst in Melbourne, not only can you find some bargains at the Queen Victoria Market, but DFO have heaps of designer brands at bargain prices, so you gotta check that out too. http://www.dfo.com.au

Don't forget to go down to Lygon Street for a bite to eat (there are heaps of Italian restaurants and there is an ice cream shop there (sorry I forgot the name of it) where they sell the best ice cream in Melbourne)

If you are after a unique dining experience, why don't you try Hard Rock Cafe http://www.hardrockcafe.com.au and T.G.I . Fridays http://www.tgifridays.com.au

You can also grab a bite to eat as well as a floorshow at the many theatre restaurants located in and around the city such as Dracula's and Witches in Britches just to name a few.

If you feel in the mood for some serious gambling (its your choice), the place to go is Crown Casino. At Crown you can also grab a bite to eat at any of their 40 restaurants, cafes or snack bars, take in a movie at Village Cinema which is located inside Crown Casino, play ten pin bowling at King Pin bowling lounge, play interactive games at Galactic Circus, dance the night away at Fusion and Club Odeon nightclubs or just SHOP, SHOP, SHOP at exclusive designer boutiques such as Versace, Louis Vuitton or Prada just to name a few and other general fashion stores http://www.crowncasino.com.au/

Victoria can be called the sporting capital of Australia as it holds the Melbourne Cup (don't forget to go to one of the weekly race meets at either Flemington or Moonee Valley while you are in Melbourne), The AFL Grand Final (At the moment the AFL footy season is underway so check out http://www.afl.com.au before you leave and buy tickets to a footy match), The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park and the MotoGP at Phillip Island just to name a few sporting events.

There are plenty of other things that you can do while in Victoria, just go to the visit victoria website for more details (that sounded like an advertisement just then * ha ha*)

Enjoy your stay in Melbourne and have lots of fun!!!!

  4. I agree with the previous answer.. go to the information centre at federation square - they're fantastic there!

  5. You'v asked about Brisbane/Cairns but many people don't realise just how big Queensland is. Cairns is over 1700km from Brisbane (over 1000 miles) and Qld stretches for at least that far again to the north of Cairns. It's a great place. Take a ride on the Kuranda Railway to the Atherton Tableland; visit the Daintree Rainforest to the north; visit Green Island which is a true coral cay and go snorkelling on the surrounding reef.

In Brisbane, go on a round trip CityCat ride on the river and stop off at Southbank, the site of the 1988 World Expo and now beautifully re-developed for the people of Brisbane. Go to Mt Coot-tha lookout for a great view of the city and surrounding disctricts with the Brisbane River meandering along through the city to Moreton Bay. Apart from that, there's not much else of interest. A bit north of Brisbane you might like to go to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo

In Melbourne, the Melbourne Zoo is great and you can get there by tram or train; go on a MCG tour or (if you can possibly manage it) to an Aussie Rules game there - the game is unique and the MCG is one of the world's great stadiums and not to be missed.

Go to the (horse) races in Melbourne. No-one ever suggests that when they talk about things to do in Melbourne, but Flemington Racecourse in particular and Caulfield or Moonee Valley are completely different from racecourses anywhere else in the world and the atmosphere needs to be experienced to believe.

Visit the Shrine of Remembrance off St. Kilda Road - sounds boring but it isn't.

Go to Healesville Sanctuary - arguably one of the best wildlife parks for Australian animals.

    Enjoy.
