Must see places in Ecuador.?

Question

I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to come with me to Ecuador, partly because I found a really cheap flight to Quito. What are some must see places or things to do in Ecuador? If we do go on the trip, we would be staying in Quito and would have to rely on transportation. So...with that being said, it would be great if we could go to these places were easy to reach by bus or train. Thanks a lot for your help!!!

PS: I am already well aware of Galapagos.. Thanks tho.

I answered your second question first! There are a lot of wonderful things to see in Ecuador. I would suggest getting the Lonely Planet Guide. Our trips revolve around bird watching. If you like nature there are some incredibly beautiful places to go. The Tandayapa valley has a number of reasonably priced all inclusive lodges. My favorite is Mindo Loma, a fairly new place with nice rooms, amazing food and the most beautiful birds you have ever seen! When we were there last year the daily rate with food was $55 a day each.

from Quito there is a beautiful town in the andes,a few hours drive away,called banos,a holy town where miracles are said to have happened,has hot springs,lovely restaurants,and you can climb a local volcano,ride horses into the mountains.From there it is easyto go to the coast for the beaches or go to the amazonas-they have four wheel drive tours from banos,see true amazonian people in thier natural environment
