  1. don't slam on the gas shift at a lower rpm then you would normally, try coasting up to a stop light or a stop sign instead of racing up to it and using the breaks so much. Instead of going 75-80 mph go 65-70 mph, use cruse control.

  2. Some people start in second gear.  Some go from first to third.  Do not tromp on the accelerator.  Drive as if there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal.

  3. Stay in the lowest gear possible.. For instance... Be in 5th gear even when you're going about 35-40 Mph.  Don't down shift when slowing down... I know it's hard, but don't race around in it.  Trust me, it's hard when you have a Mustang

  4. don't do what Doc said bad for your car.they have performance chips that add some gas mileage. Cold Air Intake will make it run more efficiently. Shift around 2000rpms

  5. When going down hill, put the transmission in neutral and coast. Also if you have cruise control, use it. Maintain your speed around 55 mph in 5th gear. You can control the engine rpm with the transmission gear you select so try to keep the rpm in the 2500 range if possible. One thing that a lot of people don't do is flush the fuel and intake system. Get some sea foam from autozone, start the car, remove the brake booster hose, slowly pour the can into the vacuum hose, and then stop the engine. Let it sit for five minutes and attach the hose back on and start the car. Take it for a drive on the highway and watch the carbon blow out the exhaust. I do this about twice a year and it helps save on gas mileage. Also maintain you car with scheduled tune-ups and keep the tire inflated to the recommended setting.

  6. don't warm up your car in the morning...just wait 30 sec for oil

pressure to build up then go...even in the winter. your car will warm up faster if you drive it rather than waiting in your car freezing for 10 min.

    don't accelerate like a bat out h**l

use cruise conrol and set it at 55-60 mph(using CC eliminates fluctuation in acceleration)keeps speed constant and you will be cruising at 1600-1800 rpms in 5th gear.

anticipate a stop and coast as much as possible...don't downshift.

    coast down hills

also get a mac cat back exhaust system to reduce backpressure

keep the junk out of your trunk.

check your tire pressure weekly and keep your suspension aligned and in good condition

    limit the use of a/c

keep your car tuned and well maintained...use synthetic oil...I use

    Mobil 1

use a k&n filter or a cold air intake kit

Use 87 octane gas...its a cheaper and your car is tuned for it from the factory.

losing some weight might help if you yourself carry around a spare tire.

    Good luck!

    BTW...I get 20-22 mpgs on my 90k mile 95 GT 5.0

  7. The best way is to simply slow down, driving 65 instead of 75 on the freeway will save you 2-5 mpg.  Stay in the slow lane and let off the gas pedal when ever possible.  When coming to a stop sign let off way early. and accelerate away slowly.  A real help doing this is a mpg gauge, if your car doesn't come with one, you can get one on ebay called Scangauge.
