Mustang for a first car?

I have looked at many cars..many many cars.... The Acura RSX looked awesome but insurance and base price was too high..

The Chevy Camaro from 00 costs 10k + at kbb

I found a deal on a V8 2000 mustang convertable with auto detailing gift card, fuzzbuster and car is in mint condition fof $7500. I am also responsible with my grades being in the top 10% of my class and I know a mustang could easily kick my *** if I'm stupid. Well, actually, it will just kill me and whoever else is in the car.

I just really want a nice high school car and I don't want to spend over 8000

(ill be buying in 2010) including insurance and hopefully gas. Any good suggestions i will be open too, but no trucks, suvs or vans. PLease, no beater cars either..

  1. Sounds like you've got good sense; The Mustang is a good car ! IF that car is in as good shape as you say, then I think that would be a good choice; How ever, the V6 is a better choice for engines.Plenty of power, and better gas milage ! Fuel injection is a MUST. ! The 302 cu. in. eng is also good. Wouldn't go with the 351.

  2. I'm partial to Mustangs.....I WISH I could have had one for my first car!

  3. You seem very mature, and I have the utmost respect for the fact that you are a good student, and more importantly, that you understand the dangers of driving. So, I won't rant about why you shouldn't buy that for your first car.

Try to learn some of the history of the car, such as previous owners, to see if you can't figure out whether or not some young, less-mature kid abused it in the past. Otherwise, if you take good care of it, it should be a terrific first car.

But seriously, a V8 RWD car is VERY easy to lose control of. My 4 cylinder RWD, with half the power, still slides the rear end out in the rain on occasion. Just be careful!!!

  4. I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.undonet.com

All V8 sporty cars are extremely expensive to insure for a 1st time driver.

  5. Okay, a mustang is my current second car. I'm 21. I got my 2001 Ford mustang almost two years ago for 6500 and it was in great condition. So youre not getting a good deal on that car. Secondly, when I was 20 my car insurance was 250 dollars a month ( and I have no tickets or accidents on my record!). I did have to carry full coverage since there was a loan. To put it in perspective, that was almost double my car payment, which was 130 a month. So for a first car, I would find something more affordable. But I do love my mustang. The other thing to consider is, depending where you live, is weather. I live in Montana and it snows really bad in the winter, and they don't close the roads, delay school or anything. So I have to drive in it. It's rear wheel drive and is absolutely horrible in the snow. I'd come home crying sometimes because I was so nervous I was going to get in a wreck and die because I couldn't start and stop without sliding all over the place (and I'm a good experienced driver). So if it snows a lot where you live, definetly don't get the mustang, at least right now.
