Question:

Mustang for my daughter?

Ok so my daughter will be 16 soon and I am looking to buy her a 2009 V6 Mustang Convertible. I will spend up to 30K. Just wondering.. I have heard they are very, very powerful cars. I know my daughter and I know she would be entirely too scared to race or go fast just to show off, but it may get away from her. Is the V6 too powerful?

And don't tell me I am spoiling her, because she is a good kid, makes straight A's, plays select softball. She truly deserves it and has wanted this car since she was 11. She would be just as happy with a Honda or Toyota but this is her dream car and I want her to have it. I do not want her to work because she needs to focus on school and softball as those are the most important things for her to go to college. Softball is her ticket and her grades need to back her up. She very much will appreciate this car, and take good care of it. She is very responsible and appreciates her father and I.

  1. im sorry, but you don't need to buy a 16 year old a brand new car. that is a bad idea, see they still don't know the rules of the road in the back of their head and most teens wreck their first car, try a 98-02 ford mustang, its not old but not new, and they look nice and are still in style. im just recommending not to buy a brand new vehicle

  2. it wont be too powerful. it was my dream car and i bought myself a v6 since i couldnt afford the insurance im 28 now and i bought the same one from that year, its a cobra conv this time. its a 97.

facts about mustangs. they are one of the worst cars about losing value. they are common cars. i bought a 30k car with 40k miles for 10k. i recommend getting one thats a year or 2 old with less than 15k miles so its still new. but you wont lose a lot of money. and if you can. rent the car first and see how she does with it. it might be too much for her. or too big. it has less power but it still has rear wheel drive which can spin out really easy.

  3. Aw thats a great thing to do! she'll love it.

And no, the V6 isn't too powerful. i think your thinking of the V8, the cobra or the saleen.

If you got a V4 in her mustang, it wouldn't have enough power to even go on the highway, since the engine and the car is pretty heavy.

And as for buying new or used, of course the mustang, like all fords, depriciate alot, but if you plan on having her keep the car for a long time, i highly recommend buying a new one for her. Its an overall better investment because you know how the car was taken care of, and if it had all the matainence done right, after all, ford has never had a big name in reliability.

And if she drove a big truck like that, it should be no problem adapting to the mustang. The only problem with the mustang i see is the insurance. Insurance is going to be killer, but lucky for you, she probably qualifies for the Good Student discount.

Also, have her try out alot of different cars. The Mustang probably was her dream car, but she may just like something even more once she gets behind the wheel of it

  4. I wouldn't buy it personally. V6 Mustangs have around 250 HP and they are RWD. So that's enough for the car to get away from her and the problem is that your instincts in a RWD car is the exact wrong thing to do in a problem situation. If it has traction control she should be fine though.

I would also recommend you going used. It would be the same car for less money.

  5. Considerations for you.

Buy late model used, try to get it certified from a ford dealership/ mustangs depreciate at a remarkable pace.

Consider where you live. The mustang is rear wheel drive. Snow and ice would be a major concern of mine if I was allowing my 16 year old daughter to drive a rear wheel sports car.

    Good Luck.

    Congratulations to the daughter!

  6. No 16 year needs a Mustang. There anything but powerful. Let her get a lot more driving experience before you hand her, her dream car.

  7. Even if she deserves it and is a good driver, the fact is that pretty much all 16 year-olds lack road experience and judgement.

You should make your purchased based on the assumption that your daughter may get into a serious wreck at least once before she's 20.   Let's pray and hope that she never does. But I'm just saying this based on statistics.

  8. I'm going to be 16 too this month and i'm getting a car. But i think a used one first till i get more experience driving than a new one. Remeber the gas prices

  9. I'd probably be a good person to answer this question. A couple months before my 16th birthday I got a 2007 Mustang V6. We bought mine at a dealer and it was lightly used, it only had 5k miles on it. Now, mine actually has 230 horsepower and I think normally they have like 205 horsepower. I don't think it's going to be to powerful for her, honestly they don't even feel that powerful when you drive them. Without flomasters they don't even sound powerful haha. So I'm thinking if she has an automatic 2009 mustang she'll be fine, it'll be just like any other cars.

Your situation sounds almost identical to mine. I think your daughter deserves it :)

  10. As long as she is a good driver i think it'd b ok...Just send her to drivers ed or teach her how to drive on her spare time, unless she already knows.
