well see i heard that worlds gonna end in 2012 and well , since we only got like 4 years to live i wanna do everything and starting with getting a mustang lx as my first car , i always liked this car , but the only thing keeping me back is the gas mileage but seriously ,i am in high school i'll only be driving to school and than back home , will the gas prices kill me on the mustang lx , i mean i find this car really nice and i seen quite alot of them around in area's where not so rich ppl live like not poor but not exactly medium class either like close to poor in a way , so how do they afford to keep these cars if they are soo hard on gas and stuff , but seriously have u owned this car? how was it , i looked into 240sx's , mr2's , honda's civics , acuras ,but this car stands out , reflect me , and i want this car , is it worth it ? plus my budget is 5000$ and lots are $5000 and under so that works out perfectly let me knwo

  1. i have a 1992 mustang gt iam saving for its awsome. and know one knows when is the end of the world.

  2. I wouldn't. My friend bought a 1991 Mustang GT and everything imaginable went wrong with it and it ended up costing him alot to keep it running.

I'd go back to 240SXs, MR2s, and Civics if I was you. The LX isn't even worth owning because of its low performance. I drive a 1994 Nissan Maxima and it can keep up with a Mustang GT of similar age till about 100mph (by which point a drag race has been over), put me up against a V6 and it's toast.

The Civic of course will get the best mileage, 92-95 VX Hatchbacks get 48 city and 55 highway mpg according to the EPA. However then you are dealing with 60-100hp or so and the EPA probably didn't drive the thing hard at all. If you have a weak 4 banger you tend to want to drive it hard just because it will hardly move below 4000rpm or so. In which case you lose your gas mileage.

The 240SX and MR2 are very nice performing cars. RWD like a Mustang but with the reliability of a Japanese manufacturer. They get about 25mpg as far as I know and if you still have money after gas you can always modify them. The 240SX has pretty much 4 paths - stock KA24 turbo'd, CA18DET (australian engine), SR20DET (japanese engine), or the ever so rare RB inline 6 (skyline engine). The MR2 most people stick with the stock engines, especially the early 90s MR2s which are available with a 3S-GTE turbocharged engine.

  3. $4,000 1998 Mustang V6

    $6,000 99 to 2001 Mustang V6

    $8,000 V8 1999 to 2000

    $10,000 V6 2003 or a V8 2001

look for these years and engines.

  4. Mustang as 1st Car .... Have you looked up Insurance yet ?

Go to Esurance or Progressive and get a quote....

    Fox Body LX or 98 97 96 LX ? LX really ?

    You might want a 5.0 GT !!!!!!!

remember 5000.00 budget remember might need repairs or tires stereo....

Also look for a Cobra ! with a 5000.00 budget GT or Cobra if your going to pay that HIGH insurance get something that will hold its value if you take care of it.

Side note when I was a kid I was told the World would end in 1984 because of whats in the King James Bible. Then I was told in 1996 that the world would be thrown back into the dark ages because of the year 2000 ((( Y2K ))) Just because no one had put something on my computer to count past 1999... I was also told when I was 22 that California was going to fall off into the ocean and AZ was going to be flooded again like it was 40,000 years ago.

    I want a 1969 Sportsroof or Mach 1 or

    settle for a 2004 3.9 V6 Mustang or maybe GT 2005

  5. The world is not going to end in 2012. So don't worry about that.

Any Mustang is going to be a terrible first car. If you're looking at a Fox-body, you'll find them with 4-cylinder and V-8 engines. The V-8 will absolutely kill you on insurance, and if you buy one with a 4-cylinder, it'll take about 1.4 seconds before you'll wish you'd bought a V-8. The SN-95 platform offered a V-6, but since pretty much any Mustang has an image as a sporty car, the insurance companies will charge you up the *** to insure them. And they're not very good on gas.

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but you need something that's safe, reliable, and won't cost you an arm and a leg to insure, maintain, and feed. A Toyota Corolla or a Nissan Sentra will work nicely.

  6. Do you have a job?  Do you know how high insurance would be for a teenager in a mustang?  Yeah unless you can find a mustang that is like $500 dollars, or your parents backing you up on gas and stuff then i would go for a different car, a civic SI is better on gas and if you get the right year is faster than a mustang lx.  You're gonna be hella disappointed in 2012 when the world doesn't end and you are broke.
