Mustapha Jarju will sport Vancouver Whitecaps FC jersey from July 20 – MLS News
Major League Soccer franchise, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vancouver-Whitecaps-FC-c40870, have secured the signature of their first import from Africa, the Gambia international Mustapha Jarju.
The Gambia-born started his professional football career in Belgium and inked a contract with Belgian Pro League (Jupiler Pro League) outfit, Lierse SK, at a tender age of 21.
During his two-year stay at De Pallieters (2006 to 2008), the striker scored 24 goals in 62 matches, winning a national team berth with his accomplishments.
The player then made a move to second division Belgian outfit, RAEC Mons, which he helped elevate to the first division, Jupiler Pro League, last season. The player put in some marvellous performances at the Mons and scored 34 goals in 99 matches. His exploits
earned him the captain’s armband in the Gambian national team.
“Whenever we are making signings, we like to do that with an eye to the future,” team president Bob Lenarduzzi said. “He has had a good career at a very early age in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 between the first and second divisions, and the thing that he’s been able to do
is score goals.”
The player has been capped 24 times by the Scorpions and Jarju donned the captain’s armband in 10 of those.
Jarju was a brilliant player since his childhood, the head coach http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Soehn said at the press conference. He served as skipper of the Under-17, U-19 and U-21 teams and now at a young age of 24, the player has been handed over the armband for the national
squad.
“Captains aren’t just made,” Soehn said. “When you look at his childhood, he’s been http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 of the U-17, the U-20s and even at 24 he’s captained his national team. That’s a feather in his cap and those are the kind of guys we want to bring here.”
The flashiest aspect of Jarju that won him a move to the Caps was his goalscoring ability. Moreover, the player also inspired the management with his ball distribution.
The striker is not the first player to be featuring in the MLS. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-England-Revolution-c40026 and Mamadou Danso in Portland Timbers are all Jarju’s compatriots.
Although the player has inked a contract with the Caps, according to MLS rules defined for the North American summer transfer window, the attacker will be in action after July 19 and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434 will be his first league opponent at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The Quakes traded http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 in June for allocation money and Jarju has been brought in with the funds acquired.
