Mutaz Essa Barshim prevails at the Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe – Athletics news
As the Asian Athletics Championships concluded in Kobe, Japan, Mutaz Essa Barshim, the young high jumper form Qatar prevailed in the event with his scintillating performance. Marking an altogether unexpected effort, the Qatari, who had been counted among
the underdogs, rose to about 2.35m for setting his national record, besides grabbing a title in the event.
After producing such impeccable results, the stellar performer of the day said that he was aiming for better in the meet. He was confident to sustain such form and spirit to observe a similar performance for earning a gold medal at next month’s World Athletics
Championships in Daegu.
Brashim, who scaled up to an impressive 2.32m back in the mid of June in Sweden, has got his training from ASPIRE Academy, which is known for inculcating excellence among the athletes it trains. Fortified with such professional training, the young Qatari
national record holder emerged first on the world athletics arena back in 2010. Early that year, he marked his indoor Qatari national record for jumping up to 2.25m in Gothenburg, which was followed by a gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics championships
in 2010. For bagging the prestigious title, he jumped to a height of 2.20m.
The effort was simply marvellous and the sustained performance depicted by the young athlete lead towards his selection in Qatar’s national contingent for the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, held in Doha. For marking an impressive 2.23m in the meet,
he ended for a fourth place in the qualifying round. With his wonderful performances, Brashim emerged as the first graduate trainee of the ASPIRE academy, who attained an apex position right from the start of his professional career.
Brashim, who also happens to be a World Junior champion, observed a record performance this season. He was not only enjoying his own form and fitness, but also the overall conditions and atmosphere he was exposed to in Kobe. Starting from a moderate height
of 2.15m, he gradually improved and hit 2.33m, before marking the national record of 2.35m.
When he successfully cleared the bar, the crowd observed an electrifying wave of applause which was a true acknowledgement of the young boy’s talent and efforts. For a second position on the podium, it was Lee Jin-Taek, the Korean athlete, who observed 2.32m
and improved his earlier Personal Best.
Though he finished second on the podium, the results marked by Jin-Taek was also a national record. After observing 2.31m at the Doha meeting (Samsung Diamond League), he had improved his record further and this was surely an impressive achievement for the
young Korean athlete.
