Muttiah Muralitharan is irreplaceable says Sri lankan off-spinner Ajantha Mendis
Sri Lankan off-spinner, Ajantha Mendis, has said that his former teammate, Muttiah Muralitharan, is unmatchable and the world of cricket might not see a bowler of his class ever again.
The Islanders are currently playing a Test series in England and they find themselves in a very awkward position at the moment, especially in the bowling department as some of their legendary bowlers like Muralitharan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223 and Lasith Malinga are
no longer available to play Test cricket.
Sri Lankan cricket fans are hoping that Mendis will take over the role of the premier striker in the bowling attack after the retirement of Muralitharan.
However, Mendis thinks that Muralitharan is irreplaceable and his team is going to miss the legendary off-spinner big time.
Mendis went on to claim that the current Sri Lankan team has the ability to beat England in the ongoing series.
He said, “Nobody can fill the void left by Muralitharan. Murali is Murali and there can never be another bowler of his class. I want to think that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 can beat England as we have the players to do it, but it is how we play on the day. However, we are
determined to do well; no questions about it”.
The 26-year-old bowler burst into the scene of international cricket in 2008 and rocked the world with his variety of diverse deliveries.
He became very popular at the beginning of his career but failed to maintain the same run of form as the batsmen all around the world started picking his variations more often.
Mendis said that all the bowlers in the Sri Lankan team have to play a part after the retirement of some of the greats. He emphasised on playing as a team rather than depending on individuals to win the matches for the country.
“Well each one of us has a role to play. I don’t think there is a single player that can be considered more important than anyone else in the bowling department. All of us have to do our bit when the opportunity comes and with that we can end up on a positive
note”, Mendis added.
