Muttiah Muralitharan reveals Mahela Jayawardene’s World T20 offer – Cricket News Update

But the Sri Lankan spin wizard apologized maintaining it would be selfish to snatch the opportunity from the youngsters.

“Mahela had asked me, but for me, if you're retired, you've retired. Youngsters pin their hopes on these tournaments to shine. I don't play domestic cricket anymore,” said the legendary off-spinner, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in this year’s Indian Premier League.
“It will be selfish on my part to go and play. I don't want to spoil the image I have by going back to international cricket. I have the memories and a satisfying end to my career. What else could I ask for?” he added further.

The hosts for the mega event are yet to name their final 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, and are expected to pick up their squad towards the end of the six-day extension in deadline granted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday.
The Islanders are currently in the midst of the inaugural edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League, underway since August 11, 2012 and the Sri Lankan selectors want to pick up a squad based on the performance of the players in the domestic Twenty20 tournament.
Murali also expressed satisfaction over how the SLPL has progressed so far. “The IPL is strong, but the SLPL has had a good start. We have good players participating here,” said the spin wizard.
Replying to a query regarding the low attendance for the Sri Lankan Premier League, Murali reckoned that the Sri Lankan public was saving money for next month’s T20 World Cup.
