Muttiah Muralitharan slams Sri Lanka Cricket decision of calling back players from IPL
Former spin bowling wizard of Sri Lanka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 slammed the Sri Lanka Cricket for calling back its players for the tour of
England in the midst of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
Murali, who is representing Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 in the ongoing IPL, said that the board had issued No Objection Certificates to players until
20 May, 2011 so it was wrong if they want to change it to 5 May.
“I think the board [SLC] has given them permission till May 20,” said the legendary spinner while talking to the media reporters. “I don't know what happened suddenly. The players were told to come on May 5. It is the fault of
SLC because they signed the NOC till May 20 so if they change it to May 5 it is wrong.”
Currently eleven Sri Lanka players are playing for different IPL franchises in the Indian Premier League. These include some key
Sri Lanka team members including former skipper Kumar Sangakkara, magician Murali and star pacers like Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to tour
England from 10 May, 2011 and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket has asked the players to return home by 5
May to participate in the training camp for the England tour.
Murali, who retired from international cricket recently, said that the players would get demoralised by the decision of the Board as returning home by 5 May means to play half of the sensational Twenty20 league and miss a major
part of it. He further added that the Board should have informed the players earlier.
The former Sri Lanka spinner said that the decision could affect the ties between the cricket boards of the two countries.
“We have 25 million dollars of debt after the World Cup. You don't have to antagonise
India because only when India comes [to
Sri Lanka] we make money and survive, so I don't know what's going to happen,” added Murali.
Kumar Sangakkara, however, has said that they would welcome the decision of their Board in any case adding that it was up to the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to negotiate on the matter.
