  1. Righty tighty Lefty loosey. Id let the oil soak in for a day or so before id try it! Hope this helps you out!!

  2. It is right hand threaded so go counterclockwise.  You may need to use a penetrating oil to help break it loose.  When you do get the breech plug out, it would help to clean it up well (same for the barrel) and either apply bore butter or anti-seize to the threads of the breech plug before reinstalling it.

The trouble you are running into is common if you have a muzzleloader that you are less than meticulous about cleaning or if you haven't "seasoned" the bore yet.

  3. You will need to get a socket wrench that will fit the breach plug.  Then you will need to get some penetrating oil and soak the breach plug with it.  Allow it to set for an hour or so and then see if you can remove the breach plug by turning it counter clockwise.  Since there is rust in the threads, you will need to work it back and forth as you remove it.  That is to say, back it out a turn and then work it back and forth to break up the rust flakes.  Back it out another turn and work it back and forth again.  Keep doing this until it is all the way out.  Use a fine wire brush to remove the rust from the threads of the breach plug and the breach.

In the future, be sure to clean the breach plug by removing it.  Not removing it will allow acids from teh combustion of black powder to seep into the threads again and you will once again be faced with this same problem.  Black powder guns require a lot more cleaning than do modern guns.  If you are not willing to do this, you might as well sell your muzzleloader and let someone else enjoy it who is willing to take the extra time and effort to properly clean the gun immediately after each use.

  4. It should be right hand threads, so CCW is the way to turn.

    Good luck!
