My 04 mercury optimax 150 will run up to only half throttle.?

Boat ran fine for a few trips but now it will only rev up to half throttle. It does not miss or stall.

My guess would be power pack, this is a unit that produces the Hi-output to your coils then plugs this is what gives you high HP.

The power pack is like a switch you have a low side and a high side since most outboards run 90% on the high side this side burns out first giving you the low side to get back to the dock.

Usually when this happens you will be able to obtain half throttle and when you go to WOT (open it up) it will make a BOGG type sound.

You will need to take it to a marina and have them hook it up to there

diagnostic tester and check for a trouble code.I think something has happened and your computer has been set into limp mode,which enables you to get home but not at full power.You need them to find out what happened and to fix the problem and then reset the computer

so that you will have 100% power again.Good luck.
