  1. my b/f and i were concerned about our son's breathing when he sleeps when he was just a week or so old too.  we took him to his pediatrician, they checked him and he was fine. the doc also said that all babies breathe at different speeds like that. but you should always check with your doctor. i dont want to tell you nothings wrong, in case there is!!

  2. take your baby too the ER. and let them do tests

    good luck

  3. What you're describing is called neonatal breathing.  It is totally normal and as long as your baby is breathing between 30 and 60 times per minute, is in no distress (not turning blue), and doesn't have a temp or decreased appetite, there's nothing to worry about.  If it makes you feel better, I'm sure your PCP (primary care provider) would be more than happy to put your mind at ease and answer any questions you may have.  Good luck and God Bless!

  4. I would just incase,or call nhs direct. Trust your instincts, if you feel there is something wrong with your baby then go get him/her checked out, it will put your mind at rest.

Are there any other symptoms? high temp etc?

    hope everything Is ok,

  5. It is very normal for baby to breathe inconsistent , yes it can be a worry for a mother so try not to panic to much :)

There are certain signs you may have to listen for ive attached one web site but there are plenty more you can look up on.

  6. "I" would call the doc if I wanted my baby to live!  Until then, stimulate its breathing by constantly rubbing its back --  this will help slow or speed up the breathing process.  Do this while asleep and awake.

  7. i work with newborns, and i have to tell you that it may not be a big deal. Normal respiratory rates for a newborn are 30-60 breaths a minute. What you need to do is get a watch with the second hand and time the baby for an entire minute. If it falls in this range you are fine. Babies can go through short apneic spells, which is totally normal. If the babies respiratory rate is much lower or much higher, I would give the doctor a call....no reason to head to the ER yet. Good luck.
