My little girl woke up around 3am today with a high fever, she was really hot and she threw up about 3 times. We brought her to the emergency room and when they checked her temperature it was 104 so they gave her medicines and when we got home, she was cooling down and didn't seem so sick. Now it's 1:25pm and she's really hot again, i checked her temperature and it was 101. I already gave her Tylenol. Is there anything else i can do to help reduce her fever? I'm getting really worried. She has a followup check up again at 4pm today.

  1. Alternating children's Tylenol and ibuprofen can help bring down a fever.. It's always worked better than just one or the other for my 2 kids.. A slightly warm bath, just warm enough so that it's not cold you don't want to freeze her, will also help to bring down a fever.. make sure you keep her hydrated too, especially since she was throwing up!! I hope she gets to feeling better!!

  2. Leave her in bed, put a cool cloth on her forehead. Try to give her something to eat but don't force it. I'm sure she'll be fine(:

  3. okay, keep her in front of a fan. The medicine will soon help it.. keep her cool, no blanket when sleeping too, keep the fan on her when shes sleeping. Give her loads of cold water, and ice pops should help. Keep out of the sun, keep doing something not to tiring, like watching t.v to keep her occupied. Never keep her unattanded. And keep a fan on her at all times lol. Oh calpol is very goo to bring down temperature.

Good luck hope she gets better, and finish your dose of medicine.  And if you have any other worries, call your doctor and tell them everything :)

  4. Give her a nice, cool bath (not too cold!) and this will bring it down faster than anything. Popsicle too, if you have them.

  5. popsicels, tiny ice chips, a lukewarm bath, and clean sheets. thats what i do! make sure you give her lots of fluids even if she cant keep them down!

  6. I agree with the cool bath and a popsicle.  You might also alternate Tylenol with baby Motrin.  They are two different type of medications and won't interfere with each other.  Call your pediatrician's office to let them know you are trying this method, and get confirmation of the appropriate Motrin dosage.  LOL with your little one.

  7. keep a cool compress on her head

  8. Try a cool cloth on her forehead and maybe a luke warm bath.  Put a vaporizer in her room if she is having trouble breathing (just use the kind that does a cool steam or mist).  Dress her comfortably and keep her hydrated. Pedalyte is a good thing to use to boost electrolytes, especially if she is vomitting.

If her fever spikes up above 101 before your doctor appointment call them or get her to the ER again.

** DO NOT alternate motrin and tylenol. This is the worst medical advice on the internet!  One goes through kidneys, the other liver. The problem is when alternating these for infants and toddlers is they are given in CONCENTRATED form, meaning the most powerful and strong form they can safely be given in. The problem is that even alternating every other dose they will eventually mix in the blood stream and her system and can cause an overdose even though they are both over the counter medications.  I asked several pediatricians about this both where I live now and where we lived before we moved a year ago and they all told me this. Use one or the other, not both.
