i took her to the doctor today and her doctor said that she has a virus. he did a blood test. her fever was 101.6 and he said that there's nothing i can do for her except give her tylenol drops or motrin drops and liquid claritin drops in case she also has allergies. i have done this all day like the directions said and her fever isn't dropping. it is staying around the same and she wakes up from her sleep about every 30 minutes so i can't go to sleep. any suggestions on what to do? she has a severe runny nose too.

  1. as long as the fevers not getting higher then its alright..tonight wouldnt be the greatest night for a good nights sleep because itwould be a good thing to check her often seeing as the temp is not going down at all..Maybe a warm bath will help the fever go down..if you steam up the bathroom b4 putting her in it the bath it will help decongest.

  2. There is not a whole lot you can do, but to make her as comfortable as possible.

Tylenol during the day and only Motrin right before bed if she really seems to need it. Motrin is very hard on the kidneys and liver. Most pediatricians only recommend Tylenol and especially for a lower fever. Remember fevers in children can run higher than us adults.

As long as it doesn't reach past 104 then there is nothing to worry about. A fever is actually good for her because it is fighting off the virus.

I swear by those Vick's Vapor rub plug ins. Put one in before bed and close the door to get it really going. Prop up the mattress with a pillow underneath to help her breath better. A warm bath with lavender nighttime bath is wonderful and helps open up the sinuses. A humidifier is good too. Baby Vick's vapor rub on her chest and back helps too. Then just make sure she is getting plenty of liquids.

    Lots and lots of love.

I have gone thru these lots of time. They are not fun to see your child go thru these illnesses.

I hope she starts to feel better soon.

  3. I do not know anything about claritin drops. Are you giving her tylenol or motrin. I would only give her one or the other and keep her on a schedule like if it says every 4 hours then do every 4 hours if she still has a fever. For her runny nose, I would keep her elevated when she is sleeping, like a stroller, car seat or elevate the side of her crib. I hope she feels better soon. What dosage are you giving her? Did you ask the doctor? Maybe the dosage you are giving is not right for her.

  4. how often r u giving her the meds r switching every 2 to 4 hrs?? it should bring it down for a few hrs... u should probably take her to the ER... something is definitly not right... its always scary when little ones run fevers like that.. i would take her in just to be safe...  its dangerous for her to run fever constantly like that... they may need to run some more test...
