  1. It is stressful having a little one hurt. If he is acting okay, I would probably wait to take him in. I would keep a close eye on him for the next few days and if he starts having unusual symptoms I would take him in. I have a 21 month old and she has had many head bumps like you described. We finally got rid of all our tables that she could hit her head on (we put them in the basement for storage). It made all of our lives less stressful.

Take care and I am sure he is okay. Just keep an eye on him for any physical or behavioral changes.

  2. Um...yeah. Definitely call and see.

    Right away...

  3. the goose egg is pretty common and long as he doesn't act any different I would say he's fine just keep an eye on him

  4. If you have the insurance and can afford it, obviously, yes, go.

    But some people can't.

Here's how to play the waiting game on this.

Observe his behaviour... if he seems "out of it, dazed, confused"... take him. He might have a slight concussion.

Take a bright light (preferably a mini light, like a pen light) and flash him in the eyes. His eyes should dilate and come back again when the light disappears.

Finally, take a toy that you know he likes and move it left and right and up and down in front of him. Watch his eye movements. If they're jerking movements, take him to the doctor.

Monitor his behaviour for the next few hours.

    Hope this helps.

  5. If he's not bleeding I'd wait to make sure he's acting normal.  Put some ice on the bump.  If within 30-45 minutes he's in obvious discomfort, I'd bring him over to the emergency room.

  6. nope -not an emergency.  ice the site if he allows.  give him advil for pain and let him play quietly for the day.  call the pediatrician for more advice.

  7. I'm going to say go to the ER - only for peace of mind. Trust me, they see hundreds of kiddies with banged heads and almost always the advise is the same, it seems ok, watch out for slurring, sleepiness, vomiting, unsteadiness in his gait - if they do that, bring them straight back etc

If you don't go and something happens, you'll never forgive yourself. Go and get told the above and come home and sit and worry for the rest of the day (like we all do), then tomorrow you can show it off to all his friends.

  8. no unless he is dizzy, tripping, slurring and/or vomiting....don't let him sleep...if none of this...then he is ok

  9. Did he cry right away?  If yes, then that's good.  Did you put a cold washcloth with an ice cube in it on the bruise?  You should do this to slow the blood in the area and reduce the swelling.  Is the bruise near an eye, nose, or mouth, then you should go to the emergency room.  Is he still really upset, then go to the ER.  Can you call any on-call nursing hotlines?  You should consider this.  My 1 year old falls all the time and has had some nasty looking injuries but I could tell she was not seriously hurt.  If you're unsure, then call a nurse hotline or go to the ER.  If you feel pretty confident that it's just a big nasty bump that will get better with cold cloths and rest, then you're the parent, I'd say you know best.

  10. Not unless he is showing signs of a concussion, dizziness, lethargic, difficulty walking etc. If its just a big bump on his head put some ice on it and it'll go away with time. Trust me there will be many more falls, bumps & bruises to come!!

  11. Hard to say,  keep him awake , in my opinion, if he acts no differently, and has an appetite and everything, and u've kept him awake at least an hour i say not necessary. Children are very resilient, i've taken my son, sir slip-a-lot to tha emergency room and been told tha same thing i've just told u! children will hit there heads, sometimes a lot, u'll hate it every time, but i say, if he doesn't act any different and hasn't lost his appetite, is not bleeding, and can stay awake without effort, he'll be fine. But  i'll tell u i am no doctor. Also, tha lighter tha baby, tha worse it LOOKS.

  12. YESSSS

go to ER now, why are u on here.

  13. if he is up and moving around and not sluggish them you don't have to go just put some ice on it if he would let you. BUT if hes sleepy eyes are dilated and non responsive to light take him right away.

  14. If he's acting normal, then he's ok - you want to watch him for awhile to make sure he doesn't fall asleep.  If he falls asleep and you can't wake him up, he needs to be seen.  I'd try to put something cool on it - ice wrapped in a washcloth  - if he lets you.  He's probably fine - I've got 5 kids and have seen lots of big bumps!
