  1. experts would likely say it's bad, but my one year old has been watching tv for like 6 months and i don't think it's hurting him

  2. A lot of people will tell you that it is bad, and I'm sure having your kiddo sit in front of the boob all day long would be horrible, but a few shows a day will not hurt her.  As long as the television doesn't become the babysitter, you're doing ok!

My son was a huge fan of Baby Einstein and now has graduated to the Little Einsteins and from that show he can point of to me Africa, The Statue of Liberty, an anemone, AMAZING STUFF!!

  3. I believe your daughter can benefit from tv, because most all the shows on noggin are developmental and educational shows for pre-schoolers.  Both my daughters watch noggin and have benefited from their programming.

I think you will find that after a period of time you will begin to notice your child's overall knowledge and vocabulary exceeds that of children that don't benefit from developmental and educational television shows or dvd's.

I have also used developmental dvd's like "baby einstein", software like "reader rabbit" and subscriptions to "nick jr." magazine to help educate my daughters.

A friend of mine who works with "deaf children" told me that few deaf children go through what is commonly called the "terrible two's" because their "fits" are usually associated with a lack of ability to communicate their needs.  Sign language enables them to communicate their needs effectively and is easier to pick up than verbal communication skills.

Educational programming along with Baby Einstein has introduced my daughters to multiple languages, including sign language and has helped them to communicate "very well".

    (edit)...

I think some people are reading a little too deep into your question...  You didn't ask if television should replace parental interaction and social or physical activity.  I think noggin is a great educational tool to have handy in your "tool box" of items used during your daughters development.

  4. I just make sure to watch with my child, and to make it interactive by joining in with songs and dances from time to time.

  5. I always have this on in the background at my house. The kids will play and then stop and watch for a bit then run around and play again. They have learned so much from watching those shows and the games we play that go along with those shows. I think it's wonderful!

  6. I believe you can establish poor habits by allowing your little one to watch TV, especially at her age.  TV leads people to become lazy and unimaginative.  Many will say that their children learn so much from TV.  However, I believe that these are things they should be learning from books and from the real world where they have to interact and not sit passively.  I teach children and the brightest, most engaging children are limited by their parents on how much TV (if any) they watch.

    Check out this website:  http://www.partnershipforlearning.org/ar...

It gives good information on how TV watching affects children:  increased obesity, speech/language delays, decreased communication and interactions with others, poor social skills, increased levels of fear and aggression.

  7. it's ok because it's educational and she's just a baby, but if she gets older (say two or three) you need to let her know that she is not going to watch tv all the time. you won't allow it!

  8. the doc will say no but my two year old watches tv all the time when he plays he is fine he plays out side then comes and watches tv as he  plays i say its ok

  9. I don't believe that a baby under 1 shouldn't watch television. My 4yr old son used to watch cartoons/noggin all the time when he was an infant still crawling around. He is not 4 and he still watches the show and he has learned many things from noggin. It's very educational. I'm letting my 11month old baby watch NOGGIN now too. He finds it amusing. He even laughs when he hears funny voices on the show. So I don't think there's anything wrong with letting your daughter watch noggin. I'm sure they will just be smart and learn many things from it.  I don't teach my 4yr old most of the stuff and I get shocked sometimes when he talks to me because it's something I never even taught him.
