  1. You should ask them if there are any sensitive formulas that they do cover. WIC changes the formulas that they cover every few years so it may be to much for them to spend. If they don't cover one you can use then ask your doctor to find another reason that your baby has to have that one specific kind. I bet if there was no other way then they should probably make an exception for you. I think that enfamil does make one for sensitive tummies.

  2. It probably is cause they don't cover any similac formulas.  It depends on your state, (oklahoma uses goodstart, texas similac) I would look at the list of covered formulas, and see if baby can use one of those.  The good news is that in a couple of months it won't matter anyway. Good luck =)

  3. WIC around here (Mass) will fill the dr.'s request. You should fight for it if you feel he really needs it. But another person's suggestion about foods is very important as well. At 10 months he should be on finger foods. But stay away from apples, applesauce, and bananas, and other constipating food. A grilled cheese sandwich will just bind him up.  Instead feed pears, prunes, cooked greens (spinach, broccoli). I knew someone who would periodically (as per dr.'s recommendation) give her baby an oz. or 2 of clear pedialyte with a tablespoon of brown sugar in it. Worked like a charm to get baby to go.

  4. well i am on WIC and here they recently changed to Enfamil, at least where i live... anyways, Enfamil Gentelease is probably similar...it has less lactose and good for babies with gas or fussiness. i am switching my son right now to it because of his tummy aches and spit ups. can you schedule an appointment with a nurtitionalist there to ask what is the best Enfamil for your baby? if your WIC is still on Similac, ask them why, they should tell you! Maybe they wont change you because your child should be switching to whole cows milk in a couple months.....it doesnt seem worth switching him now.

  5. WIC should have covered it...I'm not sure they didn't.  I would call them up and ask for a supervisor.

  6. Reneaumommy Is right. At 10 months you should be close to taking him totally off formula so just buy the handful of cans that you'll need. And giving him apple or prune juice will definitely help with the constipation and is perfectly safe for him. At his age though I would dilute it with water so he doesn't get  too used to the sugar in it. And if you don't want to give him juice then just giving him extra water will help.

As far as why they won't cover it... I don't know b/c I never used WIC with my kids...But if I were you I'd call and speak to a superviser.

  7. In my state if your infant needs a special formula you can get a note from the docter,  it sounds like you may need to speak to someone higher up and be more persistant.  Good Luck!

  8. My sister had the same problem with her son, and even with a doctors note they wouldnt change it to enfimil...they told her that they could not cover other brands of formula because of a contract that they had with Nestle good start...I think that that might be the same reason they wont cover it for your baby. But I would ask. good luck.

  9. wic would only cover 4 cans a month of the enfamil hypoallergenic i dont know if that's the same as yours but its 25 dollars,  usually you could get 10 cans a month. i dont know anyone that only used a few cans of formula from 10 to 12 months i would say at a minimum you would need 20 cans thats where babies need to get most of their nutrition after they are one then they need to start getting more nutrition from table food. id say have your pediatrician write another prescription maybe say your baby is allergic to an ingredient in the regular formula, or try to switch maybe he can tolerate regular formula now

  10. I don't know about WIC covering formula...but at 10 months he should be mostly on table food.  Give him prunes, prune juice, apple juice, peas, black beans, or any other fiber filled food and he will have a BM.   What has he been drinking up to this point?  If you really feel he needs it the buy it out of pocket.  You shouldn't have to buy but a few cans befor ehe turns one.  I would alter his diet.  Don't give bananas, cheese, or applesauce as those are contipating foods

You can also ask her doc for samples of it.

  11. If they wont cover it then maybe they cover enfamil and enfamil has a lactose free formula that is the same as the similac sensitive. We don't get wic and my son is 10 months old and I buy the parents choice at walmart. . it's just as good for half the price.

  12. That's hardly fair!

Two months ago, my own baby girl (who is now three months old) had problems with the blue Similac can (powder format) so I kindly asked her pediatrician to change it to Similac Isomil Advance (can format) with the help of a prescription to hand over to WIC, which they did without complaining.

I don't understand why this happened to you though.

Which state are you guys from?

  13. i recieved wic and my son used similac sensitive, they covered it so im not sure why they wont cover it for you, my son had colic so maybe thats a reason. find out more info from wic

  14. Yeah, it happened to me with my son. He couldn't do the regular stuff with full iron at first, so he had to have low-iron formula. The doc wrote the script and they gave it to me til he was five months old, but then they said he couldn't have it any longer. The doc then wrote one for Carnation Good Start and they did let me get that. My son did great with it. You might try this.
