My 10 months old German shepherd mix ate a pencil. The whole thing, not in one swallow but she chewed it up and ate it. I found pencil pieces in her cage that she sleeps in. Is she going to be okay because she ate the led as well...so I'm freaking out here. Please someone help me out.

  1. Pencils are no longer made with actual lead, they are made with graphite so she won't get lead poisoning.

Watch her for any signs of distress in case of the wood pieces causing digestive issues.

If she starts exhibiting any behaviors that are not normal, call your vet.

  2. Call your vet ASAP.

  3. POISON!!!!!  GET TO VET!!!!!!!!!

  4. Take her to the doctor asap.  the pencil's pieces may obscure her stomach and cause infection, tumor, etc.

They most likely  will force her  throw up  Or may be they will do a surgery to take it all out. I am not a vet doctor, but  I would take my dog to the doctor right away.

  5. Better get it to a vet, pronto.

  6. Pencils don't have lead in them anymore.  Your dog will be fine.

  7. It's spelled lead. And there is none of that in pencils. There is graphite only. And next time your dog eats something not edible, call a vet asap. Don't go on yahoo-answers and wait for someone to respond. Everyone who answered said go to a vet. Take the hint here.

  8. Pencils are not longer made with lead.  They changed that because kids were chewing pencils :)  Chances are that she really did not eat most of it, but rather just chewed it up.  You are probably OK, just keep an eye on her.  If she shows any issues, i.e. starts vomiting, you will then need to call the vet.

You now know you have a chewer so be very careful what you leave in her reach...
