  1. well i played the violin at her age ..if she loves it 15 to 20 minutes should be enough a day if she is on the regular material for he grade level skill

  2. I am a strings teacher for public school and private lessons.

If your daughter is taking violin through the school and this is her first year, she should practice a minimum of 60 minutes per week, spread out over at least 3 different days. This will give her some freedom as to when she puts the time in and might make her feel like it's her decision.

After a while you may want to up her time to 90 minutes per week. After several years of playing, daily practice of at least 30 minutes is required.

Sometimes in the first year there is not as much material to practice, and if no private lessons are being taken techniques may be practiced incorrectly at home so it is best not to force too much practice time in the very beginning. 60 minutes per week is just fine.

  3. ive been playing violin for 6 years i think its best she practices at least 20 to 30 minutes each day

  4. If you force her to do it, she will turn out as an okay violinist.

If she loves it and wants to practice, she'll be great at it.

  5. I would say Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for atleast 20-25 minutes maybe 10 minutes longer depending on how she feels. But if it were everyday 20 minutes.

  6. i think that should practice at least 2 hours a day.

but don't push her because that can cause her to start resenting having to practice.

  7. How ever long she wants. She plays because she likes it. If you force he to play once she feel she is done she will hate it and not wanna play. The best thing to do is once a week ask for a concert. That way she is comfortable playing in front of people and you know that she is prating at least once a week all of the music

  8. does she want to do it ....lesson once a week...practise tiwce a week

  9. I think 15-20 minutes or so is about right.  It's the sort of skill that needs some attention daily or you may as well not do it at all, but it shouldn't be taking away from playing outside, playing with friends, reading, etc., and you certainly don't want it to become a hated chore.

  10. It's up to her, to be honest. I think that she shouldn't have a set time to practice EACH DAY, but in a week she should practice at least an hour or two (that averages only 10 or 20 minutes a day).

  11. The bare minimum in order to make any progress would be 30 minutes daily.  What did her teacher tell you?

    Is she interested?

Those first few weeks of playing can be difficult.  I know when I started playing there were a few times I almost threw in the towel.  It sounded scratchy, I was having trouble getting it to sound like SOMETHING...my Mom wasn't overly pushy but she did encourage me to keep trying and not let it l**k me...I was working on my first real song and she kept pushing me to keep on..and finally it was like a "light" clicked on in my head and everything just came together...after that happened no one could STOP me from playing and I was absolutely HOOKED!  I would wake my family up at 4 in the morning practicing...in high school I practiced 6 hours a day...I have played in orchestras and it has been such a big part of my life!  I hope your daughter will learn to love it as much as I do.

Inspire her a little bit..go to YouTube and look at videos of Rachel Barton, Anne Sopie Mutter--also The Corrs, Alison Krauss, this way she can see many different ways the instrument is played and used in performance--by women.  I have played Paganini 24 for my daughter from early childhood and let her hear different artist playing it  and hear different styles..telling her this would be one of her accomplishments in life...I told her about Paganini's famed Il Canon violin and we looked it up on the computer...She has changed her name to Violin.  One other thought...I don't know what sort of violin and bow you have for your daughter..many places sell an "outfit" and you may or may not have a bow with horse hair...there is one type bow sold in children's instruments with an artificial "horsehair" that would discourage anyone.  If it seems she is really interested and you think she has one of these awful bows you can get her a better bow for about 65.00 from places like Shar.  You don't want to pay a ton of money for things until you know how she is going to play..but at the same time sometimes these things are so bad I don't know how kids would ever be able to learn with them.  You can't "see" the difference...I have only seen these bows sold in children's violin "sets" and sometimes sold for about 25.00 separate...

  12. She should play for at least an hour and a half each day, if not that, then 1 hour a day.

  13. 30 minutes is good  If she wants to practice more, good for her, but i personally would break it into various 10 or15 minute practice sessions in an evening.  By practicing over 30 minutes at one time when young, fatigue sets in and the quality of practice diminishes.  By splitting up the times, you have time to physically recouperate and your daughter will remember things better.

  14. I have a 10 year old twin boys; one plays guitar and one plays piano. They each have a half hour lesson once a week and they practice for an hour each day; two hours on Saturdays and Sundays.  This seems to be working out since they have homework and studies to do too.

They enjoy playing and it isn't a hardship for them, but my husband and I firmly believe that they should be involved in music in some way. If they didn't like their instruments we would switch them to something they liked more, but the current practice hours would not change.

    Hope that helps!

  15. You shouldn't overbear a child with a massive amount of practice time, because she might hate you for it.

Unless she absolutely loves to practice without being told, a good practice time would be 20 - 40 minutes a day.

  16. i think she should pratice for 30min every other day so she has one "free day" every other day! so she doesn't get tired of it and gets stressed

  17. she could practice as little as 15 mins. every day

  18. That is up to her, what does she want to get out of violin. DOes she want to learn to be alright? Maybe, 30 minutes a day. Are you the one focing her to learn, then no matter how much time she practices, she wont enjoy it as much, because its your dream not hers.

If your daughter really wants to learn violin, she wont have to be forced to practice, shell just do it!
