My 10½ year old is pretty mature for her age. She is super bull headed and get's easy angered by little things at home. She has some trouble finding clothes that fits comfortable and throws fits over it at home. Her personality is that of a very artsy person. She is very creative but she is a perfectionist and thinks everything should go all smooth. BUT, she is excellent in school! She gets almost all A's. She is a leader when away from home and seems to care little what others think about her. She loves structure.

She wants to go to camp this summer by herself. Her older sister has attended this camp for 3 consecutive years and the camp itself and staff is great! Her older sister can't go this year and there are no friends who could go. I think she will be ok but I am wondering if some of you may have some advice or your own experience about overnight camps. Also, her sister used to go with one of her good friends and they were in the same cabin together. My 10 year old won't hava

  1. I went to camps twice a year from the age of 8, I had an awesome time and it was a break for my mum aswell.

  2. I'd say go for it, but be prepared, she may get homesick. I began going to summer camp every year when I was 11 and I really enjoyed it. I went to that camp until I was 13, then I went to another one for 7 nights. My parents felt that I was responsible enough to be okay on my own, so my freshman year of high school (2005) I went on a school trip to Boston for 4 days with no parents (only chaperone was the principal). Then, this April, I went to Greece for 9 days with one chaperone, the principal. There were 16 of us students and him and my Latin teacher. I'm comfortable with being away, as are my parents.

I'm too old to go to summer camp now, but in 3 weeks I am leaving for Australia to study there for a week :D

  3. My daughter just turned 9 and she'll be attending camp in another state.  It just depends on her maturity level.  It could be good for her.

  4. all kids deserve to go to camp in the summer :P no matta wat! lol

  5. i like cookies

  6. I went to summer camps every summer from age 8 to age 13.    One camp was a Christian camp and I'd be there for a week.   The other camp was an Indian camp (that was always the theme) and it lasted 2-3 weeks.      It sounds pretty typical for a 10 1/2 year old to be ready for sleepaway camp.
