It started at 101 yesterday afternoon and ever since then Ive been giving him tylenol every 4 hours but it never fully goes away... should I take him to the doctor? Hes been eating fine, sleeping a lot, and not really active. I just dont want to go in and have them tell me...its just a cold, etc and that they cant do anything for him, etc. I hate that!

  1. Call your doctor and give the poor little one some baby Tylenol.  A nurse told me once that if your child has 104.0 temp you should get them in RIGHT AWAY, so your little one is too close for comfort for me.  I call the nurse hotline any time the temp gets to 101 or above to be on the safe side.  Most of the time he has a fever b/c something is brewing inside...

  2. no...why take him to the doctor when you have us here on yahoo answers???

  3. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are planning on taking him in if it gets any worse?

That is your best bet... I know sometimes doctors can seem rude and impatient when you bring a healthy child in, but i think it's worth looking a little paranoid than having your child suffer with brain damage for the rest of his life.

    Please take him in soon....

  4. 103 for a 11 month yea id say take him to the doctor right away it might be nothing but better safe then sorry

  5. Well, is it a cold? I mean, does he have a cold? You didn't mention any symptoms other than a fever and that he is sleeping a lot. I would say 103 is a high enough temp that you should take him to the doc. That's just my opinion. Keep him clothed as minimally as possible -- just a diaper if there is no air conditioning, and perhaps a light blanket. You don't want him to get chilly but you want him to be as cool as possible. You could also give him a tepid bath -- again, cool but not cold. Be sure to dry him off quickly when he comes out of the bath so again, he doesn't get a chill. You can give him baths as often as you want -- for fun and to keep him cool. Ibuprofen (Advil) works much better at fever reduction than Tylenol, I think. But I wouldn't give it to him without a doc saying you should. Again, I think you should take him to the doc.

  6. Being a mother of 3 children (they are all teens now), I would tell you to get worried when a fever goes above 102.

If it was under 102, then it could run its course at home.  But even then, if it lasts more than 24 hours, I'd definitely go to doctor.

Your baby is so young, I'd go to doctor because its better safe than sorry.

Even  If they tell you it's nothing, then at least you have peace about it.   At least they can tell you if the baby needs antibiotics, or they may put an IV on him if he dehydrated.

Make sure he is wearing very light clothes and no socks or shoes.

  7. take him to the doctor- you can alternate motrin and tylenol though- like say if you give tylenol at 5 then you can give motrin at 6- motrin tends to work better IMO. but he needs to see a doctors could have an ear infection or something else

  8. first switch to motrin, next use a cool washcloth around his neck and forhead. prop his bed up and use vick vapor rub on his chest and use a vaporizer in his room.

do this all after you TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR.

    THAT IS A HIGH FEVER.

  9. I would try motrin for children. It works wonders on reducing fevers. If this doesn't get the fever down then obviously your child might have an infection somewhere. In this case, I would seek medical treatment to pin point the area and figure what medicine will work to help your child get better. Good Luck!
